I Remember Him
Past-Night
It was a late Spring early Summer night as fireflies danced in the dark sky, warm air blew in the breeze, as the nights began to wane.
"Okay girls time for bed." Their father said.
"AW!" The twin sister's groaned.
"But we're not *YAWN* sleepy." The first twin said.
"Yeah, *YAWN* we're not babies." The second twin said.
"Too bad, I don't want you two sleepy on your last day of school tomorrow." The father said as he picked up his daughters and put them to bed.
"AH!" The twins groaned.
After, putting his daughters to bed the father was in the living room going over some family photos for the upcoming anniversary of Nickel-Per-Play.
"Owen?"
Owen jumped out his seat to see the intruder.
"Lavender? What are you doing up it's late?" Owen asked his wife.
"I can ask you the same fuckin' thing." Lavender countered back.
"Lav, please don't curse the girls might hear." Owen groaned.
"They've been asleep for hours, like you should be." Lavender pointed out as she sat next to her husband. " What are you going up so late?"
"Just looking over some old photos of Nickel-Per-Play since the anniversary is -" Owen stopped dead in his tracks when he saw an photo of himself as a child, his father, and his mother on opening day.
A wave of melancholy washed over Owen. He worked so hard to keep Nickel-Per-Play open to be the place his father dreamed of to pass down from generation to generation. Would his parents be proud of him?
Lavender wrapped her arms around her husband and wiped his tears away. "There, there, Owen, let it out."
Owen didn't realize he was crying until Lavender wiped them away.
"I really miss them. I just want them to be proud of me."
"Daddy, what's wrong?"
Owen and Lavender looked up to see their daughters Lily and Sunny wide-eyed and worried.
"It's nothing girls." Owen said as he brushed some tears away.
"Who's that?" The girls asked pointing at the people in the photo.
"Ohh, these two are Lucy and Carlos, my parents you're grandparents! It's been awhile since I talked about them." Owen answered.
The rest of the night Owen told stories of his parents to Lavender, Lily, and Sunny. About how the the met in college, got married, had him, opened Nickel-Per-Play, and many fun times.
Hours passed as Lily and Sunny fell asleep in their parents arm as they were placed in their beds.
"Owen, remember when you wanted your parents to be proud of you?" Lavender questioned.
"Yeah?" Owen responded.
"They are proud, of this." Lavender gestured to their sleeping daughters in their beds.
Owen looked back on their sleeping daughters and smiled.
"Yeah, they would be proud of this." Owen kissed Lavender as the two headed to bed themselves.
Future
Winnie watched from the security cameras as children and their parents enjoyed the entertainment provided by Dreamworld Facility.
GOD!
How he envied them, this should've been his life! With his wife, son, daughter-in-law, and granddaughter but fate had different plans for him.
Not only did he lose his Lucy, he lost the granddaughter he never knew, only for his foolish son to follow in his footsteps and die in the same damn cave!
*CRUSH*
Winnie crushed the beer bottle in his claws not giving a damn that the caramel colored liquid made floors underneath his feet sticky. The only thoughts that concerned him was seeing his granddaughter and reuniting with his family once Litho finished the keys to immortality.
"It'll be worth it." Winnie told himself. "Litho says I'm so close to seeing you, my granddaughter. I'll make you proud."
Winnie left the security room ready to stalk the floors for more souls to harvest for Litho.
On cue one of the videos was on the manager Lisa and someone as they walked to her office.
"Well, all the paperwork is in order and the mechanic position is yours." Lisa said as she filed the paperwork. "We can began training now, Mr."
"No need for formalities, call me Wiatt."
