Summary
Despite the thorough work of many maesters, the annals of history lose track of King Aegon Targaryen, second of his name, around the time he fled King's Landing and his elder sister took the city. The year that followed was filled with bloodshed and dragon fire and a realm that tore itself apart. But while the Targaryen family battled to the death, the eldest son of the late King Viserys was uninvolved and believed to be dead until reemerging to defeat his remaining rivals and reclaim his father's throne.
The king's year of anonymity was his most joyous and formative. Until now, no one knew where the king went and what he did.
After fleeing to Essos at the insistence of Lord Larys, King Aegon managed to find an unlikely companion in a merchant's daughter and gained a new lease on life.
