Seto Kaiba does not need therapy. He needs a clean bill of health so Mokuba will stop worrying — and results, fast, with no nonsense about feelings or the past.
When his exasperated psychologist resigns rather than make the referral he's demanding, Kaiba takes it as a victory. The contact she leaves behind is for one Master Seigan: a retired clinician who now practises in the red-light district, under a title Kaiba refuses on principle to use.
What follows is not what Kaiba bargained for. No diagnoses, no worksheets — only an unflappable old man, a calligraphy brush, and a great many questions Kaiba would rather not answer. Every session is a duel he's somehow already agreed to lose. Every refusal to be afraid sounds, even to him, a little less convincing.
He gave Mokuba his word he'd see it through to the new year. He intends to keep it on his own terms. The trouble is that his terms keep getting away from him.
A character study disguised as a power struggle disguised as a comedy. Features staff who express devotion exclusively through paperwork, a fictional tanuki who is definitely Gozaburo, and the undignified business of a man learning that emotion is not the same as weakness.
