Auntie Dante

Summary:

Dante got changed into a girl because of magic. Vergil is neutral about it, but Nero is not on board with it.

Notes:

i really believe vergil would just go with the flow with dante's shenanigans given the right mood. nero never likes it.

Work Text:

Nero didn’t know what to say, and neither did Vergil. It was supposed to be an easy task: kill the demon, collect the money. But of course leave it to Dante to somehow screw everything up, even though it wasn’t his fault this time.

“I’m a total babe!” Dante looked down her chest, admiring her huge boobs. “Jealous, guys?”

Vergil scoffed while Nero turned bright red.

“You turned into a girl and the first thing you do is check yourself out!” Nero hissed. “Unbelievable!”

“Do you want a hug from your aunt, Nero?” Dante spread her arms and smiled.

“No! And you’re not my damn aunt!”

“Dante, quit jesting.” Vergil put Yamato back in its sheath. He eyed Dante, sensing the magic within her body. “It’s weak. You will revert back shortly.”

“Thank god,” Nero muttered.

“Let’s get out of here. Our job is done.” She glanced at her surroundings. They fought in the middle of the street in an unknown town. Damage was minimal. Broken sidewalk, dented cars, and cracked glass from a building’s window. “I’m hungry. We should eat somewhere, maybe get a drink first.”

“I collected the money already,” Vergil said, then he made a portal back to Devil May Cry.

Their clothes weren’t bloodied so they didn’t need to change. Well, Dante had to since her outfit was super baggy on her. She headed upstairs and found some clothes that she still kept when she was a teenager. Her old red coat fitted her perfectly. She had no bra underneath her shirt, but it didn’t matter, she was decent enough.

As she went back down, she noticed that Nero was having a heated conversation with Vergil.

“What are you guys fighting about now?” she asked. She often had to calm the situation between them since their tempers were similar.

Nero narrowed his eyes at her, then back at Vergil. “I think we should just order pizza and stay in.”

“Why?”

“Because you’re a woman now!” Nero snapped.

“So what? What does that have to do with anything?” Dante blinked, confused.

“That was my question as well,” Vergil chimed in.

“People are going to question you.”

Dante shrugged. “Nothing new. They’ve seen stranger stuff. Seriously, it’s fine!”

“I fail to see why Dante’s gender changes anything. She’s still the same person,” Vergil stated, crossing his arms.

Nero facepalmed himself, then sighed. “Okay.” He couldn’t change Dante’s mind, and apparently Vergil’s. Maybe he was overreacting.

They went to a bar that was a block away. Dante ordered a beer for all three of them. Vergil wrinkled his nose in disgust. He preferred getting whiskey or rum.

They sat down at a circle table with stools around it. Nero had a scowl on his face. He couldn’t help but notice most of the men in the bar gawked at Dante. This was the problem he wanted to avoid. He didn’t understand why Dante didn’t care. It’s demeaning.

“Something on your mind, kid?” Dante wondered.

“No,” Nero grumbled as he sipped his beer.

Dante shrugged and chatted with Vergil.

A middle aged man approached Dante. He wore a black leather jacket and was smoking a cigarette. “Hey, sweetheart.” He sent her a winning smile.

Dante frowned. “Erm— Hello? Do you mind? I’m with my family.” He waved the smoke the man blew near them.

The stranger ignored Dante as he placed his hand on her shoulder.

Nero’s mouth twisted into a snarl. “Didn’t you hear her? She basically said to fuck off!”

Dante’s eyes widened at her nephew’s sudden outburst, but her attention went back to the stranger. “Yeah, what he said. I don’t want any trouble.”

The man scoffed. “You’re the one asking for trouble by not listening to me. C’mon, ditch them and have fun with me.” He squeezed her shoulder.

Nero crushed the glass in his hand. The beer flowed down the table and onto the floor. Vergil sent him a disapproving frown.

“What the fuck is wrong with you?” He was suddenly getting flashbacks when men made Kyrie uncomfortable when they were teenagers, making inappropriate comments and trying to touch her when she had said no. Nero kicked ass anyone who messed with Kyrie, and it seemed he was going to do it for Dante, too. “She’s saying she doesn’t want any trouble!”

“Nero, control yourself,” Vergil spoke up as he put his beer down.

“This isn’t bothering you?” He couldn’t believe it.

“Dante can handle her own battles,” he reminded.

Just because she can doesn’t mean she should, Nero thought bitterly.

“Look, buddy, the answer is no. Now fuck off before I kick your ass,” Dante said coldly, tired of him. “I ain’t interested.”

“With what you’re wearing, you’re asking for it.”

Nero gaped. He did not just say that.

Vergil, who had looked unamused the last few minutes, turned his attention to the man. His face darkened and he grasped the hilt of Yamato. “Repeat those words again and I’ll cut you into pieces,” he said icily, glaring at him with pure hatred.

Dante seemed pleased, then told the stranger, “You heard my brother. I’m the nicer one between us, you know, so I’d do what he says.”

Nero was proud of his dad. He thought he didn’t care about Dante but deep down he did, after all.

The man took one glance at Vergil, the way he was threatening to pull out the sword, and backed out. “Right, leaving. I was joking,” he grumbled.

Nero watched, well, glared at him as he left. What a bastard. “Fucking asshole! You should’ve kicked his ass, Dante. I would’ve helped.” Nero grabbed a couple of napkins to clean the mess on the table.

“And miss you acting like an aggressive kitten,” Dante teased.

Nero’s cheeks turned pink, out of embarrassment. “Shut up. I don’t like guys that mess with girls, that’s all.”

“Kid, I’m not really a girl, you know that?”

“I know, I know.” Nero sighed. “I’ve seen shit in Fortuna… so I can’t help it.”

Dante nodded, understanding. “I get it. Some guys can be dicks.” She drank her beer.

“I agree,” Vergil added.

“You agreeing is kinda funny since you were one.”

Vergil rolled his eyes. “Very funny, brother.”

“For a second, I thought you were going to call me sister.”

“Do you wish me to?” Vergil asked.

“Nah. Brother suits me better,” Dante said with a smile.

Nero shook his head, fondly. He went to order another beer. As he waited, he stared at his family, and it’s still odd to say, weirder now since Dante turned into a woman. Yet as he saw the way they still bickered like typical siblings, Nero wouldn’t have it any other way.
