I don't care what people think of my attitude, it's nice to put people in good perspectives

Summary:

Michael braces himself for the worst possible outcome while watching the scene play out, while God is confident and assured after first hand observation before anyone else. Confident in his son's choices. Confident that things will work out. There was nothing to fear in the moment.

Notes:

I realized the summary, the first half, anyway, on something else that I was working on, before I added to it, felt better to it's own story and la la la, you get this.

I also thought this quote from my late brother would do well for this story because of the heart of the comment.

Work Text:

"Dad, why are you watching Lucifer again?"

Michael approached his father joining his side gazing on toward the window that had a perfect view of the mortal realm. He wore that expression that he could always tell was about Lucifer. A expression that was distinctively unique compared to every other one in the family. Michael didn't know what kind of expression rested on his father's face when he really was thinking about him and he didn't care to want to know in the slightest. Knowing that look would haunt him in the worst way seeing his father not as an angel but as a entirely different viewer that couldn't be seen nor felt.

"Cain has made his decision." God answered.

Michael's eyebrows pressed together.

"Decision on...?"  Michael said

God looked over toward Michael wearing a charming and radiant smile.

"I don't need to spill it out."

"There is no context in front of me, father. I haven't been on the up and up with those two's relationship, and, it's none of my business what happens in it, and as you once said, neither it is your concern."

"Oh, Michael..." God tsked shaking his head, warmly, facing Michael, affectionately. "The warrior angel who adores doing the right thing..." He turned his attention away from the angel. "Things can make or break a relationship. Just as much as a quake makes the land collapse and send people falling."

"Father."

"It's just a very simple matter."

"Is Lucifer going back to Hell to rule over it full time instead of half time?"

"Out of luck wanting Lucifer to be ruler of hell full time, he's got the part time job handled pretty well." God had so much confidence in him. "Cain is going to approach tell him that he wants a baby."

Michael's eyes flashed open darting over toward his father.

"A little thing that needs constant attention and care? A little hairless red thing that can't talk and screams? A thing that can make a partner walk away by it's mere existence!"

"A baby."

Michael paled beside his father as his lips fell into a deep frown.

"Father, he hates babies!"

"He has turned around on that issue over the last few years."

"Having one tends to be different from being around them!"

"Have some faith in your brother being willing to raise a newborn!"

"Oh, I did have faith in my brother once! Once! Then I had to personally kick him in the butt out of heaven!"

The moment was here.  The moment that changed their entire trajectory as lawfully wedded spouses from here on our. The first murderer's foot was tapping on the floor as his eyes darted from the corner of the screen where beside it rested his phone indicating the time to a virtual villagers window. Something very entertaining to do when he ran out of stuff to burn the time away. Easy to care for and make big achievements using necessary actions leading to the big picture. The black bold numbers changed then the plan went into motion.

The first murderer got up from the desk and clicked his way closing up shop on the computer. Finally, he gently closed the box. He couldn't believe this moment was happening. A big monumental step in his life that would also change not just his life but the devil's life. The life changing thing that brought more life into a calm and mostly domestic life apart from the occasional argument about close calls over operations where the detective was there and nearly opened a can of worms.

Listening to the sounds of his footsteps fill the air one step at a time leaving the office. His husband waited for him in the top with his hands in his pocket and a welcoming devilish smile that had the pleasantries of hell emitting off it in such a warm way. The smile that blasted from corner to corner of the devil's cheeks. Young and glowing in a superb attractive way that lingered in a immortal way.

Their arms linked together upon meeting side by side.

The pair exited the station as the devil ranted about the ending of a the latest case. Full of nuance that would would be condensed on paper. Listening to the sound of the tickled devil's voice thrilled by the actions taken by sinners. Filling him in certain amusement.

"And the victims made such noise running around the house chasing each other for months that he had enough of it! What is that saying about bringing Hell? Creating Hell?  Making a commotion right out of Hell."

"Something so normal but when forgotten and struggled to be remembered somehow becomes profound."

"Astonishing! To think he referred to them as family members when we interrogated him the first time around and acted his heart out about their deaths."

"They were tears of joy."

"Really horrific to think his joy went under my nose!"

"I had a few suspects who did the same."

The devil lifted his eyebrows in alarm then began to laugh.

"The impeccable lieutenant."

His eyes carried so much affection for the first murderer.

"Not everyone is psychic."

The couple made it to the multi level parking lot where their shared vehicle awaited. A old convertible from over sixty years ago that had a dark red hue. A cat almost a representation of the devil's inner circle and his personal bubble.

Once you were in then you were in for the long haul as long as the devil sought. All until he opted to stop the car and send the passenger out in the middle of the city to fend for themselves when it came to the driving department.  Fortunately for the first murderer, he had not been ditched by the devil for any transgression over a fight so far. He couldn't say the same about Dan who got ditched from time to time. (It had became a long running gag between them that they did upon each other)

"Ah!" The devil snapped his fingers then turned his attention over toward the first murderer, grinning. "It's raising hell! That is what the turn of phrase is."

Their seat belts clicked in when Pierce decided this was the moment.

"Speaking of raising hell..." Pierce began

Pierce started the car as he drove out of the parking space drawing the attention of the grinning devil.

"Something raining hell over your head politically, darling?" Lucifer asked.

"I was thinking what if we let that hell into our lives?"

"I support your decisions and ideas, darling..."

Lucifer stretched a hand out then rubbed his partner's arm drifting his attention toward him.

"But?"

The first murderer turned his attention back on to the devil then away and back again as he drove through the multi level parking lot heading down the various levels.

"Turning the penthouse into a Uber apartment isn't one of those decisions that can last. If you wish to have more company in the house to share our apartment with then we can make do with a doberman and a cane corso. I would love to train a doberman. Nice challenge!"

"Who's going to train the Cane Corso?"

"You are!"

"Wildly entertaining but I wasn't talking about a dog."

"I am not buying that rotating cat litter box, there's too much risk in there getting the wrong one. There was this crime  scene where the victim had turned out to have bought a death trap and the cat had perished sometime after their demise. It was disturbing! Cruel!"

"Nor about a cat."

"Not buying the bird cages."

"Nor is it about a bird."

Lucifer's head bobbed up as he turned as the car came to a stop at a red light.

"Then what do you possibly want?"

"A baby."

"A child?"

"A BABY." His voice was raised slightly. "Our baby!" Motioning his hands wildly toward the devil repeatedly and back at himself. "If you're ready to jump into fatherhood with me and give it a better go than your old man."

Lucifer's dark brown eyes were flashed open still reeling at the sudden drop like a deer caught in headlights.

Surprise construing his entire face, his mind, grasped, a complete blank slate, something that tickled the first murderer so dearly as he drove around. Shooting a laugh very so often as his husband rebooted right then and there. Slow in the intake absorbing in the knowledge and processing it witnessing the genuinely bemused first murderer taking it all in stride. Passing through green lights.

"You want... you... you want to have a Nephalem?" There was something about Lucifer's voice that was deeply touched by the proposal. A slice of his devilish soul that could make cake turn into a heavenly emotional cake that was pure and tall, fluffy, sweet, and---taste like white bread. "With me."

Pierce smiled as he rested his arm alongside the devil's shoulder at a red stop light.

"The baby will make Hell rain upon us for the first few years at home but it'll be worth the rough start of a ride." The first murderer was grinning as his attention swayed over toward the stunned devil. "If I am going to suffer then best to jump in with someone who would love to suffer the entire ride caring for someone else."

Lucifer's stunned demeanor melted away as the car resumed the ride and Pierce's arm withdrew.

"With me..." Lucifer repeated.

The car came to a stop at the usual parking space alongside Lux then the first murder turned toward him.

Lucifer tugged the first murderer into a kiss that caught Pierce by surprise that was reciprocated planting his hands on his husband's shoulders as the devil cradled the first murderer's face.

A brief moment later the devil withdrew.

"Yes, I want to be waken by Hell, I want to have little sleep, I want to be drinking caffeine to stay awake, I want to hand a frozen teething ring to a teething little vermin, I want to be wanted, in fact, I would love to be the stay at home...." Lucifer cleared his throat as his husband smiled listening to his words. His dark brown eyes peering into the soul of the first murderer thinking for a short moment of what he would be. "Dad."

The pair breathed at the same time.

"I got descendants." Pierce revealed.

The devil tilted his head aside withdrawing his hand tilting his head aside.

"Why haven't you introduced me to any of them?"

Pierce held one hand up then sighed lowering his head at his partner's confusion.

"One of them is in this fertility service that helps couples have babies, no wrong egg and embryo going to the wrong woman, intended, direct, carefully done. She talked about it, last week, at great length, about how she still wants to bring life to this world and she wants all those little butterflies in her stomach..."

Lucifer began to smile as he stroked the chiseled cheek bone of the first murderer full of affection.

"Already picked out our surrogate since last week." Lucifer deducted.

A smile that was full of heart.

"No." Pierce declined.

"Sounds like you have." Lucifer's hand clasped Pierce's chin, his voice sultry, eyes half closed, admiring him, not angry, otherwise quite happy about the avenue that had revealed itself.

"I only just decided, Samael." Pierce cleared the air dusting off the skepticism in his genuine tone of voice as he waved his hands. "She is one potential candidate that I like."

"What are the stakes if we don't use her?" Lucifer inquired,

"We could do in vitro gametogenesis and have a surrogate carry our baby for nine months." Pierce offered. "We got the money to attempt that with no questions asked from the scientists in those labs."

The devil furrowed his eyebrows.

"That's been successful in mice!" Lucifer let go of his husband's chin, irked.

The first murderer unbuckled as his head whirred toward Lucifer.

"You have looked it up, too!" Pierce shot back.

"Because you looked it up on my phone a couple weeks ago!" Lucifer responded.

"When," The first murderer closed his eyes, turning his head aside, his eyes closed so tightly, bothered. "how," Shaking his head. "why," His green eyes slowly opened facing him. "When did we have a phone mix up?"

"The great fiasco when we went to a police ball and we threw our phones into the basket." Lucifer took his partner's hand. "If you want our child to have you in them then I will move heaven and earth to make sure that they do. But most importantly, if we tell them that you're related to her..."

"We will cross that bridge when we get there..." Lucifer promised, squeezing Pierce's hand.

Pierce's eyes had become considerably gentle laying on the devil.

Ten years since they met and decided to become a union, ten years since Pierce stopped wanting to die and live, ten years since Pierce filled the lonliness in Lucifer's life, ten years since their lives changed. Ten long years since falling into each other's orbit. A decade passed, phones changed, people around them grew older, they changed, and still looked drop dead handsome. Ten years spent enjoying being childless and enjoying the other's company.

"Lucifer, why was this never mentioned? Having my phone. Looking through it. Until now."

"I said nothing because I was embarrassed for taking the first flat phone and falling into the old habit of turning it on." It came out fast but the emberessement on the devil was loud and apparent on his face. "Was still getting used to a z-fold being my phone back then."

Pierce studied his partner then held his hand out for him as he unlocked the car by a single click.

"Want to go through emotional hell just for a kid?" Pierce asked.

Lucifer's brown eyes swept over toward the first murderer as he relaxed.

"We're doing it together, sweet heart." Lucifer answered. "This is a ride I will thoroughly enjoy." Waggling his head all sincere and delighted about the emotional turmoil that was going to be started. "What's the name of the fertility company? Do you have their number? Did she give you their number?"

And God was smug at being proven right.

Michael turned his attention toward his father as the event played out between the two men making concrete plans of starting a family.

"Have some faith in your brother, having a child is a difficult task these days compared to the old days."

God turned away then began to walk on as Michael shifted in the direction that his father was going.

"Back in the old days, you were focused on humanity your little pet project. Old days we were all made as grown ups." The angel followed God lagging behind him making good points. "Barely did any raising, this is very different compared to the old days---"

"A child is not that different from a pet project," God walked through the silver city. "it's time consuming and it takes your entire heart."

"I say this with love, father." Michael came to a halt in front of his father. "Lucifer can't be thrown out of paradise nor leave it. If you let him have a child then you know there runs a risk of the child falling susceptible to..."

"The child will be perfect." God finished.

Michael's eyes were carrying concern for the couple's future.

"Father...." Michael's voice was drenched in worry.

"They will be helicopter parents."

"Kids lie about their ages constantly online!" The angel paced back and forth. "Do you really think things will turn out well in an environment cultivated online? If Cain and Samael had met back in the 2000s or the 1990s, I wouldn't be worried for her safety, her peace of mind, her---father, stop projecting your preferred gender of the child right this moment into my head!"

God was smiling at Michael admiring him, proudly.

"Rory is going to be...." God assured, knowingly, patting on Michael's shoulder. "Just fine."

God walked on past Michael leaving him to stand in his stew of worry and angst for his brother's child.
