Sonic tore through the narrow alley, the wail of police sirens bouncing off the graffiti-stained walls behind him. His heart pounded in his ears as he yanked his hood up, trying to vanish into the shadows. Trusting his so-called boss had been a colossal mistake. They’d promised an easy score just a quick break-in at some rich guy’s office, a job that would make them all rich. Instead, the place was wired like a fortress. The second they stepped inside, alarms exploded through the air, and the group scattered like startled birds.
Skidding around a corner, Sonic darted into another alley, the soles of his shoes slapping wet pavement. This wasn’t the life he’d imagined for himself. He hadn’t always been this way, stealing just to get by. But being an omega in a world that didn’t care for his kind, fired from job after job just for existing, he had few choices left. Desperation had led him into the orbit of Scourge, a fellow hedgehog and a ruthless gang leader who ran a pack that thrived on chaos and fear.
Sonic had lied, told them he was a beta to avoid drawing unwanted attention. It didn’t buy him much kindness just enough to be useful. He got a mattress on the floor, stale food, and under-the-table jobs that kept him barely afloat. It wasn’t much of a life, but it was something.
Now, that “something” was unraveling fast in a city he didn’t even know the name of. He’d crossed state lines on Scourge’s orders, left what little familiarity he had behind, and ended up here alone, cornered, and hunted.
The alley opened up slightly, neon signs buzzing overhead, casting garish pinks and reds onto the rain-slicked street. Mobians scantily clad lingered under flickering lights, exchanging glances and offers in hushed tones. A red-light district. Of course.
Just as he neared the end of the alley, a sudden burst of flashing red and blue lights lit up the entrance like fireworks.
“Fuck,” Sonic hissed, yanking himself backward and bolting down a side path. His legs burned with exertion, but he didn’t stop. Couldn’t.
His breath hitched in his chest, shallow and quick. His body was overheating, sweat clinging to his fur. Was it just the adrenaline? Or something worse?
His hand brushed his lower stomach as he staggered through the alley.
He hadn’t made enough this month to afford proper heat suppressants. Rent had come first barely, yeah he had to pay that asshole to sleep under his roof. All he had were scent blockers, and even those were starting to wear thin. He could already feel the pressure mounting under his skin, he just needed to will it away before he could hold up in some abandoned building for a few days.
His ears twitched sharply at the sound of footsteps, steady, deliberate, echoing against the damp brick walls behind him.
Someone was following him.
Panic pushed him forward. He stumbled out of the alley and onto a narrow street awash in neon. Reds, purples, and blues lit the wet pavement like stained glass, and shop signs flickered overhead in gaudy loops. He didn’t take time to read them. He darted for the first storefront with a name that sounded remotely medical.
Gemstone Remedies.
A soft chime rang above the door as he pushed inside, trying to steady his breath, hood still pulled low. He slipped down one of the aisles quickly, avoiding eye contact, as if he belonged there. He just needed a minute. Time to collect himself. Maybe even find something that could-
“Hmmph.”
The dismissive grunt came from the counter. Sonic caught a glimpse of a large red echidna seated at the front, bulked up in a black tank top, arms crossed over a newspaper. The echidna’s eyes tracked him with barely concealed suspicion, then flicked back to his page with a scoff, as if Sonic wasn’t worth the trouble.
Sonic exhaled quietly, trying to calm his pulse as he looked at the shelves.
And then it hit him.
The products. The packaging. The scents.
This wasn’t a pharmacy. It was a sex shop.
Shelves lined with bottles of slick and aphrodisiacs gleamed under the dim lighting. A wall further back displayed toys in tasteful rows behind frosted glass. Discreet, luxurious. Expensive. Definitely not the kind of place you stumbled into for aspirin.
He blinked, a flush creeping over his cheeks as realization settled in. This wasn’t the place he thought it was but now that he was here, he couldn’t afford to bolt. He shook his head sharply.
Focus.
The synthetic sweetness in the air clung to his tongue, something floral and musk-heavy that made his already-fraying instincts twitch. He pushed deeper into the store, weaving past displays of lubricants, lingerie, and shimmering bottles with names like Crimson Heat and Obey Me. His steps were quiet, deliberate, eyes flicking toward every dark corner like a hunted animal.
Finally, tucked in the back near a frosted-glass divider, he spotted it: a small, clearly labeled Omega Wellness section. The shelves were stocked with discreet packaging, clean label patches, pills, scent-masking sprays, and, most importantly, heat suppressants.
He crouched low, scanning quickly. One of the generic brands he recognized. Not strong, but better than nothing.
His fingers curled around the bottle.
He glanced up toward the front of the shop. The red echidna was still there, massive, bored-looking, slouched behind the counter with a newspaper unfolded in one hand and a coffee mug in the other. Above him, tacked crookedly to the wall, was a glaring sign in block red letters:
"SHOPLIFTERS WILL BE PROSECUTED."
Sonic didn’t look at it too closely. They’d have to catch him first.
He slipped the bottle into the pocket of his hoodie in a fluid, practiced motion, then casually straightened, continuing down the aisle like he was still browsing. He picked up a jar of scented massage oil, turned it in his hands absently, all the while keeping the echidna in his peripheral vision.
So far, no reaction. No movement. Just another disinterested shop clerk with a bad attitude.
Still, Sonic’s heart thudded louder than the sirens had. Every muscle in his body stayed tense, waiting for the sudden shout, the click of a comm, the rush of pursuit.
But it didn’t come.
Not yet.
Sonic crept a glance toward the front windows, watching as the strobing blue-and-red lights dimmed and faded down the street. The sirens were finally growing distant. The coast was almost clear.
His ear twitched at the sound of a chair scraping against the floor.
The echidna had stood up.
Sonic didn’t turn right away, but he felt the weight of the man’s gaze pressing into him like a spotlight. He stiffened instinctively, fighting the urge to bolt. Instead, he looked at the first thing directly in front of him, anything to seem normal, calm.
His stomach dropped.
It was a wall of sex toys. Not just any toys obscene, overbuilt, knotted ones in every size and sheen. Some glowed. Some had functions.
Sonic’s face went scarlet.
“Heh,” he coughed awkwardly, scratching the back of his neck as he tried to fake nonchalance. “So… people really buy this kind of stuff?”
His voice cracked slightly at the end. Smooth.
A slow, deep chuckle came from behind him. The echidna, Knuckles, according to the simple black name tag pinned to his chest, strode over with the kind of confidence that made Sonic’s fur bristle. He was tall, broad-shouldered, clearly built from physical labor or maybe too many years of lifting boxes full of silicone. His arms were crossed as he loomed, but then he casually reached for one of the more… intimidating toys. A hefty, knotted one the color of obsidian.
With an amused smirk, he held it up for emphasis. “This one’s our best seller. Especially with omegas.”
There was a gleam in his eye that suggested he already knew the truth. Or was daring Sonic to correct him.
Sonic’s spine straightened. He crossed his arms tightly across his chest, feigning a lazy grin even as his glands screamed under his scent blocker.
“Well, I’m a beta,” he said with a shrug, cool and flat. “So I don’t need anything like that.”
But even as he spoke, he could feel the shift in the air. Knuckles' scent was subtle, controlled, but not hidden. There was something sharp beneath it, possessive. Maybe it was the pheromones. Maybe it was just a dominant personality. Either way, it crept under Sonic’s skin like static.
Or maybe, Sonic thought warily, he just really hates his job.
Still, Knuckles didn’t move. He just tilted his head slightly, the smirk never quite fading. Like a predator who hadn’t decided whether to pounce.
Sonic could feel the weight of Knuckles' stare lingering on him like a lead blanket. The air was thick with tension, silent, heavy, and laced with something just barely on the edge of instinct. He swallowed hard and forced a casual laugh, backing a step away from the wall of intimidating toys.
“Well, uh... this has been... educational,” he said, giving the display a sideways glance like it had personally offended him. “But I actually just remembered...I’ve got somewhere to be.”
Knuckles raised a brow, clearly not buying the act just yet.
Sonic rubbed the back of his neck, eyes darting toward the door. “Yeah, my... roommate. Real clingy type. Gets nervous if I’m not...where I am supposed to be...right now.” He paused, then added with a smirk, “You know how alphas can be.”
That part was risky, but it gave the illusion of Sonic being claimed by a pack just enough to make him less appealing prey, he hoped. Maybe it would throw Knuckles off.
Knuckles didn’t blink. His eyes trailed down to Sonic’s pocket, the one with the bottle.
Sonic’s breath hitched. Just barely.
“…Right,” Knuckles said finally, voice low and unreadable. He stepped aside slowly, arms still folded across his chest, giving Sonic a clear path to the exit. “Wouldn’t want them to panic.”
Sonic nodded quickly, already edging toward the door. “Exactly. Gotta run”
Sonic darted toward the door, adrenaline pulsing like wildfire through his veins. His fingers barely brushed the handle when, slam!
A heavy fist landed against the glass just inches from his face, the door rattling under the force.
He froze.
Knuckles' arm barred his exit, thick and solid like steel, his body pressing in close, too close, caging Sonic between the door and a wall of muscle.
The sharp scent of the echidna’s pheromones hit him hard now, no longer subtle, no longer restrained. They were thick and edged with something dangerous, possessive, dominant, the kind of scent that made Sonic’s already-overworked suppressants struggle to keep his body from reacting.
Slowly, Sonic turned his head, finding Knuckles mere inches away, his expression unreadable.
"You're in a rush all of a sudden," Knuckles said, his voice low and velvety, the smirk gone. “Did you forget to pay for something?”
Sonic’s mouth opened, a half-baked excuse on his tongue but the words died there, tangled in the heat of the moment.
He could feel his pulse in his ears.
“Didn’t think anyone was paying attention,” Sonic said finally, trying to keep his tone cool, light, even as his body betrayed him with a tremble in his fingers.
Knuckles’ eyes flicked to the bulge in Sonic’s hoodie pocket, the shape of the bottle unmistakable.
He didn’t shout. Didn’t move with urgency.
Instead, he leaned in slowly, voice dripping like honey laced with heat.
“Didn’t you read the sign?” he murmured.
Sonic’s breath caught.
“Yeah, yeah, shoplifters will be prosecuted,” he snapped, his bravado kicking in like a defense reflex. “Call the cops or fight me, then.” He shoved at Knuckles’ chest, but the echidna didn’t budge just looked down at him with that insufferable smirk.
“That’s not what the sign says.”
Before Sonic could react, Knuckles’ hand closed around the scruff of his hoodie, lifting him clean off the ground like he weighed nothing.
“Hey!” Sonic squawked, legs kicking slightly before his eyes landed on the sign behind the counter again.
He blinked.
Then stared.
“SHOPLIFTERS WILL BE PROSTITUTED. No Exceptions.”
His blood ran cold.
“That-... That can’t be real,” he croaked, his voice hitching between disbelief and mounting panic. “That’s a joke. Right? It’s a joke-”
Sonic didn’t even get the chance to finish his protest.
In a blur, he was shoved forward and pinned over the front counter, the sharp edge digging into his hips as a firm hand wrenched both arms behind his back. His legs kicked instinctively, but Knuckles’ grip was unyielding solid as iron.
“Let go!” Sonic snarled, twisting beneath him.
Knuckles leaned down, lips near Sonic’s ear, voice low and deadly smooth. “So either you’re a pervert…”
He paused deliberately, letting his pheromones crash into Sonic like a tidal wave. It was suffocatingly rich, dominant, and invasive. The scent burrowed under his skin, heating the already volatile knot of tension burning in his gut.
“…or you’re stupid.”
Sonic’s ears flattened. The suppressants weren’t strong enough. His body screamed against the pressure, instincts fraying at the edges, demanding submission he refused to give.
Damn Alphas.
He squirmed again, desperately trying to pull free but it was like struggling against a wall.
“Handsome?”
The firm hold on him faltered for half a second as a new voice rang out across the room, lilting and rich with teasing charm.
A door in the back had opened, music briefly spilling in, something sultry and bass-heavy, before cutting off with the soft click of it shutting again. In its place stood a tall, curvaceous white bat, dressed in black silk. She paused mid-step, one slender brow lifting as she took in the sight of Sonic sprawled across the counter, and Knuckles looming behind him.
“Well, this is… lively,” she said, glancing between them with a knowing smirk, wings folding neatly behind her back.
“Get him off me! He is crazy!” Sonic cried out, his voice breaking with panic as he struggled against Knuckles’ unyielding grip. His eyes locked with the bat’s, wide with desperation, his body trembling under the weight of mounting fear and uncontrollable instinct. “Let me go”
“Oh, sweetie…” the bat purred, her voice like silk laced with amusement.
She sauntered forward with deliberate grace, each click of her heels echoing like punctuation in the thick silence. Her curves swayed with practiced ease, and her teal eyes gleamed with a mix of curiosity and something darker, something unreadable.
She leaned over the counter opposite Sonic, elbows resting against the glass, chin balanced delicately atop her hands close enough that he could smell her perfume, a rich unique blend of jasmine, and orchids.
“What did he try to steal?” she asked casually, as if this were just another part of her nightly routine.
Behind him, Knuckles reached down with one hand and fished the bottle from Sonic’s hoodie pocket, holding it up for her to see with a low chuckle.
“What would a beta need with omega suppressants?” he asked, voice heavy with knowing smugness.
Sonic flinched, face burning as the truth cracked in the air like lightning.
The bat took the bottle from Knuckles delicately, turning it in her fingers as if inspecting fine jewelry. “Oh, Blue,” she murmured, her voice dipping to a sultry coo. “Did you not read the sign?”
“They’re- They’re not for me!” Sonic blurted, far too quickly. “I-It’s for someone else! Let me go, t-this can’t be legal!”
Knuckles pressed down harder, eliciting a strained gasp. “I could always rough him up a little, Rouge,” he offered darkly, his tone almost too eager, dominance rolling off him like heat.
“Ah ah ah,” Rouge tsked, wagging one perfectly manicured finger as her smile curved into something far more dangerous. “No exceptions. You know the rules, Knuckie~”
Her voice was honey-sweet, but there was steel underneath.
“We keep the merchandise in good condition.”
Sonic’s breath hitched.
“Merchandise!?” he echoed, eyes snapping wide. “I’m not!”
Rouge merely hummed, brushing a lock of white hair behind one ear as she leaned in just a bit closer.
“Darling… you are now.”
°. ⋆༺☾𖤓༻⋆. °
The sky had darkened by the time the van rolled to a stop.
Sonic’s hands were bound not tight, but just enough to make a statement. Rouge had insisted on style over necessity, opting for satin restraints instead of cuffs. “Presentation matters,” she’d said sweetly, lounging in the front seat, perfectly composed. Knuckles had driven in silence, knuckles clenched on the steering wheel.
The building before them was tucked between high-rises, glowing like a secret.
Tall, sleek, and far too elegant to be what it truly was.
Soft lights poured from tinted windows. Gold-plated signage above the door read: House of Obsidian in swirling cursive. It smelled like orchids, expensive perfume, and something darker, lust, barely masked by refinement.
Sonic didn’t say a word as Knuckles guided him through the entrance, hand firm at the small of his back.
Inside, it was worse.
Velvet drapes. Dim lights in warm tones. Mirrors that didn’t reflect truth so much as suggestion. Music thrummed low, seductive and slow, like a pulse under the skin. Beautiful people drifted in and out of corridors, dressed in silks and half-smiles. A wolf in stilettos winked at Sonic as they passed.
He swallowed hard. His hands fiddled nervously with the bindings.
“This way, sweetheart,” Rouge purred, her heels tapping against the marble as she led him down a hall. “I want you to meet someone important.”
Sonic scowled, tugging slightly against Knuckles’ grip. “Let me guess. My pimp?”
Rouge merely laughed, melodic and cruel. “No, darling. Your boss.”
They reached a dark-paneled door at the end of the hall. Knuckles knocked twice, then opened it without waiting for a reply.
Shadow’s office looked more like the private chamber of a dark aristocrat than a workplace. Heavy crimson velvet curtains draped over tall, narrow windows, muting the daylight into a low, blood-warm glow. The walls were a deep charcoal gray, accented with black crown molding and subtle gold inlays, each carved with ornate, arcane-like patterns that hinted at secrets better left unspoken.
At the center stood a massive mahogany desk flawless, polished, and imposing its edges carved with sharp, clean lines. Every paper, pen, and file sat in perfect order, as if chaos had never been allowed to touch this space. Behind it, a tall leather-backed chair loomed like a throne, its deep wine-red upholstery contrasting sharply against the gleam of black metal hardware.
Bookshelves lined one wall, crammed with worn volumes, case files, and the occasional concealed weapon. The air smelled faintly of spiced cedar with a single lamp on the corner of the desk casting warm golden light, but everything it didn’t touch fell into shadow.
A velvet chaise lounge sat off to the side, near a low glass table that held a decanter of something dark and expensive. The entire room exuded control, power, and barely restrained tension. Much like its owner.
And behind the desk stood him.
Shadow.
Tall, muscular, attractive, immaculately dressed in black slacks and a tailored vest over a dark red shirt. His arms were crossed, one brow lifted as his crimson gaze locked onto Sonic with cool detachment.
Behind the imposing hedgehog, a large screen displayed a grid of security camera footage. One frame was frozen and zoomed in, clear as day, capturing the exact moment Sonic slipped the pills into his pocket. So that’s how they caught him.
Sonic’s stomach twisted although he was unsure if it was from his pre-heat or the cold glare this hedgehog was giving him as if to freeze him in place.
“Oh, great,” Sonic muttered, stepping forward as Knuckles shoved him lightly ahead. “Its Dracula”
Shadow’s eyes narrowed. “And you must be the thief with the attitude problem.”
Their stares clashed like blades. Sonic’s smirk faltered, lips pressed tight as tension coiled in his spine.
“I’m not staying here,” he growled.
“You don’t have a choice,” Shadow replied flatly.
Rouge stepped beside Shadow, looping one arm around his shoulder like a queen unveiling her king. “Tried to steal heat suppressants, claims he is a beta.” she said, voice like silk over steel. “And we do believe in equal exchange here.”
Sonic bristled, fighting the flush creeping up his neck. “I’m not some fucking-”
“You are now,” Shadow interrupted, stepping around the desk. He stopped just in front of Sonic, looking down at him, not towering, but above in every sense. “Until your debt’s cleared, you work here. You’ll smile. You’ll obey.”
“You don't know me very well” Sonic scoffed.
Their noses nearly touched
“Besides my debt? Those pills are fifty bucks. It’s probably not even a loss for some rich asshole like you,” Sonic hissed, not backing down.
Shadow didn’t flinch. “Oh, it’s much worse than that. To cover the financial loss of your attempted theft, emotional distress to staff, damages to company property” he paused, gaze like ice, “your debt exceeds one hundred thousand.”
“Damages to- ...I didnt?...Bullshit,” Sonic snapped, fists clenched.
“It’s called civil demand,” Shadow said smoothly. “Legally, we have every right.”
Sonic’s throat went dry. “And if I don’t?” he whispered.
Shadow’s voice was too calm. The kind of calm that warned of something far more dangerous beneath the surface.
“Just as our signage clearly states,” he said, tone like cut glass, “your body will be used to repay your debt. Even dead, your organs have value. Either way… your body belongs to us now. And it will be used one way or another.”
He stepped closer, slow and precise, like a predator choosing where to bite. His breath ghosted the edge of Sonic’s cheek, warm, steady, terrifyingly composed. The space between them was electric with restraint, like a storm trapped in human shape.
Then came the pheromones: no heat, no desire, just raw, brutal dominance. Cold and clean, sharp as a blade drawn slowly across skin. A scent that promised power, not pleasure. Ownership, not affection.
And Sonic felt it settle in his bones like a warning.
Sonic’s ears pinned back, bravado slipping like oil through his fingers. His senses begging him to submit
Who the hell had he tried to steal from, the mafia?
Still, he didn’t move. Neither did Shadow.
Their eyes locked. And for the briefest moment, something flickered between them.
Shadow finally leaned back and turned to Rouge. “Ill give you 24 hours to decide how you want to repay your debt,” he said, voice returning to a frozen calm. “On your back or 6ft under, Rouge please escort him to his room.”
Rouge’s smile was far too confident like she already knew how this would play out. Her fingers brushed over Sonic’s arm, claws cool against his fur as she moved to restrain him again.
“Yeah, how about no,” Sonic said with a cocky grin, that familiar spark dancing in his eyes. With a casual flick of his wrists, the binds slipped off loose, as if they’d never held him in the first place.
Before she could react, he was gone blasting through the door in a blur of blue and adrenaline.
If there was one thing Sonic did better than anyone, it was run. Hallways flew past him, the wind tearing through his quills, sneakers hitting the floor in perfect rhythm. Doors, security cameras, startled onlookers, none of it mattered. He had this. He was speed.
But then, out of the corner of his eye, red and black quills flashed like a warning flare.
What the hell?!
He turned his head just as a weight slammed into him from the side. The world spun. Sonic grunted as he was pinned against the wall, Shadow's arm like iron across his chest.
"Thought you could outrun me?" Shadow growled, breath even, voice dangerously calm.
Sonic smirked despite the pressure. “Didn’t think you had that kind of speed in you”
Shadow narrowed his eyes and that was all the warning Sonic got before the fist came flying. He ducked, barely, and shoved Shadow back with both hands. They broke apart, circling in the hallway now, surrounded by shattered tension.
Sonic lunged first, quick and slippery, aiming a sharp kick at Shadow’s side but the alpha caught it mid-air, twisting and forcing Sonic off balance. He rolled, sprang back up, and threw a punch that clipped Shadow’s jaw just enough to leave a mark.
"Not bad," Shadow admitted, flexing his neck before retaliating with a low sweep that knocked Sonic’s feet out from under him.
Sonic hit the ground hard, breath knocked from his lungs, but he grinned up at Shadow through it. “No bad yourself”
Shadow didn’t flinch. He dropped to one knee, pinning Sonic beneath him with an iron grip. “Yield,” he commanded, voice low and rough, the word rumbling from deep in his chest.
In an instant, the air changed.
His pheromones hit the hallway like a wave sharp, commanding, thick with authority. A few onlookers nearby instinctively backed away, eyes wide as they felt the weight of an alpha’s presence saturate the space.
But Sonic didn’t retreat.
He was trembling beneath him not from fear, but from something deeper, something tangled between adrenaline and instinct. His arms were pinned to the cold floor, his legs trapped beneath Shadow’s powerful frame. He writhed, twisting to break free, but Shadow held firm. Dominant. Steady.
Be still for Alpha. Strong Alpha. Submit to Alpha.
The thoughts weren’t his own, not entirely they were instinct, raw and primal, clawing their way up through the haze of adrenaline. Sonic shook his head, hard, trying to clear them. He hated this. Hated the way his body wanted to fold beneath that scent, hated how easily he could fall into that pull.
“You gonna gloat?” Sonic muttered breathlessly, masking the conflict with a smirk.
Shadow leaned down, just close enough for Sonic to feel his breath fan across his cheek. “No,” he said, the softness in his tone made sharper by the intensity in his eyes. “But I will make sure you don’t run again.”
Sonic’s chest rose and fell, each breath quicker than the last. “Damn,” he muttered with a crooked smile, trying to mask the way his stomach flipped, “you’re stronger than you look.”
Shadow arched an eyebrow, lips curling ever so slightly. “And you’re dumber than you sound.”
That got a real laugh out of Sonic, hoarse, breathless, but real. “Yeah, yeah. You got lucky. If we raced for real, I’d wipe the floor with you.”
Shadow tilted his head. “Is that so?”
Their eyes locked, emerald against crimson and suddenly, everything slowed. Sonic stopped struggling. Big mistake.
Up close like this, Shadow was unfairly handsome. Not just strong, but composed. Controlled. Dominant in a way that made Sonic’s stomach twist with something he didn’t want to name. Realization flooded him all at once, he was pinned, flushed, breathless, and very aware of how warm Shadow’s body was above his.
His face burned.
“I yield,” he said, voice tight and quiet, but still laced with that stubborn edge of defiance. “For now.”
Shadow held his gaze for a moment longer, then slowly exhaled. The grip on Sonic’s wrists loosened, but the weight of his presence didn’t lift. Not really.
The tension between them didn’t fade.
It smoldered.
°. ⋆༺☾𖤓༻⋆. °
Sonic sat on the edge of the bed, head buried in his hands as panic tightened around his chest like a vice.
He was so screwed.
If he got out, Scourge would probably kill him for botching the heist. If he didn’t, he’d be turned over to the cops and that’d end in a cell, in chains, probably someone’s prison bitch before the week was out.
And here? Here, he didn’t even know. Fucked, maybe. Sold, maybe. Murdered quietly if he pissed off the wrong person, which lets face it was inevitable. His thoughts spiraled.
He stood abruptly, pacing tight circles in the too-clean room that they had locked him up in. Maybe he could bargain. Offer to work some other way cleaning, delivery, anything but opening his legs up for some stranger. He hadn't even had sex before. He couldn’t let them know that, he might end up as a blood sacrifice to that damn vampire looking hedgehog that ran this place.
Would that be the worst thing?
But with his heat coming up fast, who’d take him seriously for a job? He would be exactly what they wanted: slick, pliant, biologically primed to say yes.
What if they strap him to a table and just let alpha after alpha knot him? Paying to get a piece of a heat-drunk hedgehog. What a nightmare!
His hands curled into fists.
He wasn’t ready for this. He had never spent a heat with anyone. He’d always kept moving, outrunning it with blockers and bad decisions. No one had ever gotten close. Sure, a few had tried, but no one ever kept up.
His thoughts went to the red and black hedgehog. How the hell did he manage to keep up with him? Scourge couldn't even do that. He came close. Shadow however matched him speed and fight.
He bit his lip hard, fingers tightening on the hem of his hoodie as he shifted, thighs squeezing together with frustrated energy. He hated the weakness curling in his stomach, hated that it was winning.
He needed to escape.
The window barely cracked open, enough for air, not escape. Someone had nailed a brace across the top to stop it from opening fully. It wasn’t just a room. It was a cage, with nothing but a bed.
He raked a hand through his quills and tugged, trying to ground himself. Then crossed to the door. Still locked. No give, no voice on the other side.
Defeated, he dropped back onto the bed, the mattress far too soft under his twitchy, coiled frame.
He couldn’t let them find out what he was.
He’d be devoured.
°. ⋆༺☾𖤓༻⋆. °
Shadow stood in his office watching the blue hedgehog on the security monitor, arms folded.
The camera feed flickered: Sonic pacing like a trapped animal, back and forth, every movement tense and tight like a coil about to snap. He had that same wild look Shadow had seen in runaways and cornered debtors,a mix of fury, desperation, and something else. Something softer buried underneath all that blue fire.
He didn’t miss the way Sonic clutched at his hoodie like armor. Or the way his thighs pressed together, so unguarded when he thought no one was watching.
Shadow’s eyes narrowed slightly.
“He can't sit still to save his life,” he muttered.
Rouge, lounging behind him on a velvet stool with a drink in hand, smirked. “It’s called panic. He’s still in the denial stage. It’s adorable, really.”
Shadow didn’t respond. He leaned forward slightly, gaze fixed on the monitor.
Sonic was trying the window again. Tugging it uselessly. Then the door. Again. Then, finally, dropping onto the bed like his strings had been cut.
A long, quiet moment passed.
“He’s hiding something,” Shadow murmured.
Rouge raised a brow. “Aside from lying about being a beta, stealing from us, and having absolutely no idea what he’s doing?”
“More than that.” Shadow’s voice was calm but focused. “Thieves are always hiding something “
Rouge’s smirk deepened. “Like his heat is coming? It would explain the suppressants”
“I am not sure that is it.”
“Mmm.” She sipped her drink. “Are you interested?”
Shadow didn’t answer. He didn’t need to.
His eyes remained locked on the screen, watching as Sonic curled in on himself at the edge of the bed, small, tight, trying to disappear.
The omega was terrified. Furious. Fragile.
But more than that… dangerous, in a way Shadow hadn’t decided how to name yet.
“Put him on minimum handling,” Shadow said finally. “Only you or me. Knuckles if he can manage not to smash his face in. No one else.”
Rouge raised an eyebrow. “Protective already? You have never acted like this with the other shoplifters”
“Cautious,” Shadow replied.
But even as he said it, his gaze didn’t waver.
