art gets what it wants (and art gets what it deserves)

Summary:

Schlatt nodded back, feigning deep thought before he nudged further, "Well, you wanna know what I think?"

Connor side-eyed him as he took his hand away, watching the other circle to stand in front of him. "Yeah."

"I think," Schlatt began with a grin, using his arm to prop himself up on the chest next to him, "–that you're gay."

Work Text:

Schlatt rhythmically tapped his fingers on the crafting table in front of him, racking his mind for any ideas on what he could make.

He could make a fishing rod, he had the string and sticks for it– and with those same materials he could make a bow, among other things if he turned the string into something else.

Yet... none of those ideas seemed particularly appealing to Schlatt.

He sighed in unwilling defeat when he couldn't think of anything good, glancing at the clock framed up on the wall and furrowing his brows at the time it read.

"We need to do something, man, we can't just..." Schlatt dramatically waved his hand, before turning around and gesturing at the other person in the room, "..Stand around and watch paint dry all noon."

Connor, the other person in question, raised a brow. "We don't have to always be doing stuff," he replied as he stared at one of the paintings in the room, "We can just chill."

Schlatt gave a somewhat incredulous look at Connor. "I'm chill," he simply protested.

Connor hummed in acknowledgment.

Schlatt's offense faded as he noticed the particular painting that Connor was eyeballing, squinting at it to try and figure out what it was to no avail. He stepped away from the crafting table and stood next to Connor, leaning on his shoulder.

The two stayed silent for another moment, letting the silence hang in the air before it was broken again.

"...I'm counting the pixels," Connor quietly joked, tongue in cheek.

Schlatt snickered, "Pfft– Yeah? How many you on, four–twenty?"

Connor barked out a loud laugh, nudging the other with a wide grin covered by his own hand, "Shut up, oh my god,"

The room became quiet again, a gentler quiet, as Schlatt's hand settled on the other's back. He hummed in thought as he went back to trying to figure out what the painting was of.

"What's it meant to be?" Schlatt questioned, sharing what was on his mind.

Connor glanced at the hand held on his back before answering, "It's someone– or, I dunno, It's actually just a hand– lighting something with a match," Connor answered, before adding, "I think It– that it looks all fuck–y because of the varnish being badly used, though.

"Hmn," Schlatt so helpfully added along with him. He could see that, yeah.

"You think?" He prompted.

Connor nodded in confirmation, "I mean, It was obviously meant to be pixel art," he clarified, "but there's no way the– that the quality was supposed to look like that."

Schlatt nodded back, feigning deep consideration before he nudged further, "Well, you wanna know what I think?"

Connor side-eyed him as he took his hand away, watching the other circle around to stand in front of him. "Yeah."

"I think," Schlatt began with a grin, using his arm to prop himself up on the chest next to him, "–that you're gay."

They held eye contact for a moment, both of them attempting to maintain the straightest [pun intended] face that they could muster before they both bursted out into a fit of laughter.

"I'm gay??" Connor gasped out between giggles, his face flushing at the sound of Schlatt loudly cackling, "Me?? You're calling me gay?? With that pose??"

"What? I'm not the guy who gets all– blushy anytime another dude is in five meters within proximity of him!" Schlatt retorted with a laugh, both of their faces flushed pink at this point from the topic of conversation– and, likely the lack of oxygen going to their brains.

They both giggled more, trying and failing to not to keep cracking up every few seconds, before Schlatt suddenly stopped and went stone faced.

"Nononono, listen, listen– Pants, look." He snickered, taking a deep breath in an effort to maintain his composure as he put his hands on Connor's shoulders and looked him in the eyes.

"Connor– I'mI am a homosexual, Connor."

Notes:

... then if things couldn't get any better, they walk onto stage and kiss, holding the gay flag
