Chapter Text
The Gods were about to decide Humanity’s fate, and either kill them or spare them. Prometheus was preparing for the Counsel of the Gods. He was making his way through one of the many garden paths. It wasn’t used by many, which made him able to enjoy the beauty of it. He stopped and breathed in the air, he was going to try and save Humanity if the gods decided to kill them. He was just unsure how he was going to do that.
As he was about to begin again, he looked off to the side and saw someone who made him freeze in surprise and even scared him. It was the Primordial Goddess, ‘Gaia’, his grandmother. She was sitting under a tree, staring at him. She moved her hand and gestured for him to come to her. He did so, but he was concerned about what her motives were. He had made his way to her, and he was more concerned as he felt the feeling of uneasiness around her.
“No need to be afraid, my dear child. If I wanted you dead then I would have done so already.” She spoke with her voice sounding soft, but Prometheus knew Gaia appeared soft but was as dangerous as any Primordial god. He stood there, but was forced to sit as the Earth beneath him shifted his legs out from underneath him.
Gaia was wearing the dress she has always worn, with the metallic mask she had always shown to everyone. She looked like she was waiting for a wedding to begin. Prometheus watched as trees grew around them and concealed them or trapped him.
“May I ask what brings you to Valhalla?” He tried being polite. Luckily Gaia did the same.
“Not the only time I snuck in under their noses. But I come here to watch them decide Humanity’s Fate.” She said as she petted the flowers around her.
“I’m guessing you agree with the gods?” He asked, knowing most nature gods hate Humanity. But Gaia scoffed as she focused on the plants around her.
“I find Humanity a unique factor in Nature. A way to keep Nature from growing soft and too untamed. Most of the Humanities pollution I can easily clean away like mud on a rock. I enjoy what they do with the resources around them. They enjoy nature, but also know it will bite back and know not to take it lightly.” She said as Prometheus seemed to be somewhat glad about her answer. She stopped and turned to him as he sat straight.
“Which brings me to why I am truly here.” She said as he looked at her with a raised eyebrow.
“I already know what the gods are going to choose, and you do as well,” He nodded as he knew they were going to kill them. “That’s why I came up with a plan, I began to make Earth unable to house monsters. I needed humanity to grow and multiple at a faster rate.” She spoke. Prometheus finally now knew why monsters were moved to Heaven. Humanity was able to kill after what Gaia did, but he seemed more interested as to why.
“Before you ask why, think as to why I didn’t kill you during the war. You had access to the Primordial Flame. You were the first step in my plan, I need the gods busy so you can help Humanity. I knew you had a more warm heart than most divine beings. You were the only one who could do it.” She told him. He sat there and looked surprised at the news. Gaia had planned for him to give Humanity the Primordial Flames.
“And look at what happened to them. They were twisted by the Flames and now destroy each other every few years.” He said as he gripped his hands. Gaia lifted his head as she looked at him.
“Yes, and that's what they needed to stand against the gods. Gods hate conflict, they don’t like their things being destroyed. But humanity has fought each other for so long, they now have the tools to defeat the gods. Something stronger than any blade or weapon. Something more durable than any armor. Something the gods lack, they have the will to live. The gods don’t have anything to challenge them anymore, but Humanity continues to bleed and struggle in this universe. And now one has gained the means to make the gods bleed.” She said the last part with a type of glee. She moved her dress back and Prometheus saw a Young Human male sleeping, he was laying his head on her lap.
“Who is this?” He asked as he was shocked she was letting him sleep there.
“The fruit of my plan, a human who has the potential to challenge the gods.” She said as massaged his cheek. Prometheus nodded, and pointed at her and the boy.
“Is he?,” She laughed. “No, even if a human had gotten me in bed with them, I doubt my body could bear a Human/Primordial God hybrid.” She joked. Prometheus nodded as he stared at the peaceful face of the boy. He was deep in his mind, far away from the reality of this world. Gaia snapped her fingers to get his attention.
“I need you to help me finish my plan.” She asked. Prometheus seemed confused as she rubbed the boy’s head.
“What help would I be able to provide?” He asked. If Gaia can’t do it, why would he be able to.
“You are able to train him and get him ready against the gods. Plus, there are others who would be able to help if it came from you.” She told him as she moved the human onto the ground and stood up. She backed up to the tree from earlier, before she looked at him.
“Prometheus, this isn’t just for Humanity, other things are at play. The boy is our only hope for a possible future.” She said as the tree opened up, and she went inside as it closed. Soon the cover around him had disappeared leaving him with the Human in the middle of the garden.
Prometheus was in thought as he was struggling with what to decide to do. He hadn’t really prepared for this, but who would be able to. He looked at the Human boy and took a deep breath. ‘Gaia wouldn’t lie about something like this, nor would I be able to just abandon this responsibility.’ He steeled himself for his new role.
But he soon let his doubts take over. He began to wonder if he could possibly be able to do what Gaia asked of him. He gritted his teeth at his failings, he was beginning to rethink his new role. But as he looked at the Human, He remembered the night he gave Humanity the fire. He remembered their smiles and how they asked him so many questions. When he was arrested, they tried to save him, they were scared. But they still tried to save him, he hated himself for doing nothing then.
Prometheus was chained up as he was being escorted to be tried in Heaven. He had given Humanity the Primordial Flame, and now was going to be punished for it. He had accepted his fate, when he heard noise. He turned and saw the Humans he had saved, coming to try and save him.
“Prometheus, Hold on!” One yelled as he tried pushing past the Angels. One was struggling with one of the Angels, but he was pulled by the other angels as he watched the Humans try to save. He watched as they yelled his name and fought against the angels. He soon was transported to Heaven as he yelled out to them to leave him.
Please, just leave, I won’t let you be hurt!” He yelled as he watched as the Angels drew their weapons. He soon lost sight of them as he was blinded by the bright lights of Heaven.
Prometheus sat there and clenched his fist and teeth as he rid himself of his doubts. He wasn’t going to fail, he was going to save Humanity and train this Human. If He could at least help one Human stand against the Gods then they would live on. He got up to one knee and leaned forward to shake the Human awake. The Human began to wake up and laid there, with his eyes open and drool on his cheek. Before he suddenly shot up and looked around confused.
Hunter was woken up as he had decided to take a nap. But he was shaken awake by someone, when he finally decided to actually wake up. He was met with a sight that wasn’t there when he fell asleep.
He saw massive ancient buildings like you would have seen in Rome or Greece. He was confused, before he saw who had woken him up. It was a large buff man who was easily 8ft tall. He looked concerned as he looked at Hunter.
“Where the hell am I?” Hunter asked as he looked around.
“You are in Valhalla.” He answered him. Hunter was still as he let that sink in. Before the man could react, Hunter shot into a standing position and grabbed his head as yelled out.
“I died while taking a damn nap! How the hell am I in Valhalla?!” He yelled. Prometheus sweated dropped at the reaction, but understood his frustrations. Hunter stopped his raving before looking at the Man.
“Who are you exactly?” Hunter asked the Man. Prometheus stood up and held out a hand to Hunter.
“Prometheus,” “Hunter.” Hunter shook his hand, before he looked at him in confusion.
“I thought Valhalla was Norse?” He asked, confused. Prometheus understood most humans found the arrangement of the heavens confusing.
“We call it Heaven or Valhalla, but refer to it as the Heavens to make it easier.” Prometheus told him. Hunter nodded as he looked around.
“I honestly thought I would be in hell, I thought Heaven was reserved for the most good of people.” Hunter said to himself, but Prometheus answered anyway.
“Its actually the other way around, only the most vile of people go to Hell. If you still have a shred of dignity or remorse, you’ll go to Heaven.” He said as Hunter nodded.
“So, may I ask what I am doing in this place? I thought I would be somewhere less important.” Hunter asked as he looked at the gardens and massive buildings. It looked like a place for kings and gods.
“You actually didn’t die, or at least I don’t think. You were brought here by someone.” Prometheus told the boy. Hunter looked at him and blinked as he nodded slowly. The sounds of bells were heard as they both looked at the massive building in the center. Prometheus tightened his fist as he stared at it, he relaxed and motioned for Hunter to follow.
“I’ll explain why and how you got here, but we must hurry.” He told him as Prometheus began to head towards the building.
Prometheus was walking towards the counsel room doors, and knew what he was going to expect behind those doors. Hunter was also there, but he was wearing a large brown cloak that hid his face and body.
“So, Gaia brought me here because I have something to be able to fight the gods?” Hunter repeated as Prometheus nodded.
“But why me? I haven’t even fought in a battle and now I have to fight the gods?!” he exclaimed as he walked alongside Prometheus.
“In your current state? No, I am going to train you. But do not worry, Gaia isn’t the type to joke around. If she brought you here, then she knows what she’s doing. So trust me and we can get you ready.” Prometheus gave him a genuine smile and a thumbs up. Hunter nodded as he felt that he could trust Prometheus.
“Also a bit of a worry, no matter what is said in there. Just keep quiet, the gods wouldn’t be happy about a human being in the room, when deciding your race’s fate.” He told him. Hunter only had time to say what as Prometheus opened the doors to one side of the Counsel Room. When he opened the doors, only those in the back rows of seats near them looked as the doors opened. Most of them scoffed as they found out who it was. But some did linger when Hunter walked in wearing the cloak. But they all shifted back to the center of the room.
Hunter stood at the top of the room with Prometheus as He hid behind him and the pillar near him. He saw an old man sitting in the middle of the room. He was petting a large dragon as he was sitting in a chair. He grabbed a gavel as he banged it, this got every god’s attention as he spoke. Hunter was surprised he could hear him like he was next to him.
“Well, then… My Fellow Gods! It’s been a thousand years since we last held one of these. Let us begin the Conference.” The old man spoke as the room began to whisper among each other. He was about to speak again, but he held two sticks with a circle on each. One circle had another circle on it, and the other had an X on it.
“Now… I ask you all… Shall we give Humanity another Millenium of existence? Yay…” He held up the circle sign. “...Or Nay? Do we put an end to them?” He held up the X sign. “Let each God… Show their will.” He finished as murmurs filled the room as the Gods decided. But they were brought out of it by a voice.
“Yeeeah… I say end them!” A purple skinned man with four arms spoke up. He was holding two X signs on one side. “I’ve been watching them closely… …and they shown NO signs of improvement. It’s a total drag trying to guide them. Let’s wipe the slate clean… …and let some other species evolve!” He laid on his giant floating pillow. Hunter wanted to say something, but he knew better than to speak out right now. A silky female voice rang out, Hunter turned and almost jumped at the sight. It was an almost naked goddess, she was sitting on a stone dude, with one holding her up as he held her breast too.
“Indeed… Shiva is right.” She spoke. Hunter didn’t care if she was sexy or a goddess, he didn’t like her. “The past thousand years… …Have seen the world become increasingly ugly. Trash and oil in the seas. The Forests, gone. Entire species, extinct. Humankind itself… … is a cancer eating away at life on earth. Or perhaps I should say… …they’re a plague that will bring about their own end.” After she finished saying this, many in the Counsel Room echoed her words and opinion.
Hunter watched as the gods decided to end his race, He knew they had some major issues, but that's life. Nothing can be perfect or that becomes the inherent issue. Hunter wanted to yell out, but a hand from Prometheus stopped him.
“Not everyone is for it, wait a moment and you’ll see.” He told him as Hunter watched on. Zeus raised his gavel and began to speak once more.
“It appears… …we have a decision. And so… I hereby… …declare… …an END to…” With each word and each inch, Hunter felt it get slow and slower. He awaited the thing Prometheus stopped him about, just as he was going to say something. A voice rang out stopping Zeus from hitting his gavel.
“ONE MOMENT, SIR!” a female voice sounded in the chamber. Hunter along with the gods turned and saw a tall and frankly beautiful woman who had that goddess beat. Next to her was a small girl who could be mistaken for a human, but Hunter had a feeling that wasn’t the case. As they stared at her, she began to walk forward and down the steps a bit. Along with her walking, Hunter could hear whispers among the gods.
“A Valkyrie?” “That’s a Valkyrie!” So she was a Valkyrie. “What the…?” “Where does she think she’s going?!” some gods said out loud. She stopped and spoke again.
“With reverence to the gods… …I humbly ask that I be allowed to say a few words.” She asked them, but a loud annoying voice sounded out.
“You mind your manners… …Brunhilde!” He felt killing intent fill the room as he looked and saw a black and white crow, sitting on an old man’s shoulder. Hunter immediately knew who it was, the Allfather Odin.
“Know your place, demigod! How dare you barge into a conversation among the gods?!” The birds yelled in their annoying voices. Odin just glared at her, while they yelled. Brunhilde just looked on before continuing and ignoring them.
“Humanity’s insolence and savagery is indeed unpardonable.” Hunter’s eyebrow twitched, but he had nothing on what she said. “However, simply annihilating them… …is so… …Cliche.” She finished. Hunter’s mind went blank as he was about to walk around to smack her, but was stopped by Prometheus. This didn’t go unnoticed by a certain Demigod nearby, he watched as Prometheus held onto the cloaked person.
“Does Humanity deserve to exist for another thousand years? May I suggest testing them? You can even display… …your divine might and mercy while doing so.” She offered to them, Hunter still found it horseshit. The birds began to bring up past punishments, and Hunter realized the gods were very petty.
“No… there’s a more effective way.” She stayed silent as they yelled at her to tell them already. “The Gods vs Humanity! The final conflict! Ragnarok!” She announced as Hunter was confused and slightly interested. The gods on the other hand stared at her in silence. They didn’t even seem interested in what she offered.
“Defined in the extra extra-ordinary clause… …In article 62… …paragraph 15… …of the Valhalla Constitution as… …A series of one-on-one showdowns… …between the gods and humankind!” The room remained silent after she finished. It was quiet until the two birds spoke up.
“Ha! That’s your proposal? You Valkyries should know very well… …that humans stand no chance against the gods! It’d be a waste of time.” The birds finished as the room agreed with them as they complained about it.
“So the Gods’ will is Humanity’s extinction… and… …the avoidance of any direct confrontation with humans… is that right?” she asked. This seemed to confuse everyone including Prometheus at what she was saying. But Hunter knew what she was doing.
“By any chance… are you… …afraid? If so, I apologize. Please ignore my remarks. Let’s just forget about the Ragnarok clause…” The room was silent at her words, Prometheus now understood her plan too. Hunter waited for their reaction, but was surprised at it. The gods began to laugh and chuckle, Hunter wanted to think they didn’t even find it insulting. But he knew the truth, he wisely hid behind Prometheus as the Laugh grew. The sounds of banging and cracking were heard, the gods did a 180 shift and glared and growled at the Valkyries. They began to yell and threaten them, while Brunhilde stood there unfazed. But they grew quiet when Zeus began to speak.
“Ho Ho Ho… Ragnarok, eh…? That’s an interesting proposal.” he said as he petted his dragon. “Yup. It sure is. How… …utterly… …Amusing!” Hunter watched as his right arm bulked up and tore the dragon’s face off. The gods watched in fear as Zeus tore the dragon apart. “And I'm sure that… …all of you… …are also longing to witness… …the wrath… … of the Gods!” he turned to face them, showing his crazed face. “What do you say, my fellow deities? Shall we battle Humankind?!” He laughed as they looked at him with terror as he grabbed his gavel and smashed it into the chair. This caused it to break and crack the floor as he smashed it too
“So humanity will fight the gods. Gaia was right. Come Hunter, we need to go meet some new allies” Prometheus said as he turned to leave. Hunter waited as he looked at the gods, he was unsure if he could even stand a chance, even with help. Hunter quickly caught up and followed him out, but they were being watched by the Demigod from early as they left.
