"Is this seat taken?"

Summary:

Sarah sees this girl, and immdelty wants to get to know her.

Notes:

Okay so I've seen this au done before but I thought I might as well also add my verison. So basically Six goes to paradise instead of John and Henri, they would still show up evenutally but by then Six has already befriended Sam, explored the little well thing (I have no idea why they never did that in the first book [otherwise known as James Frey didn't come up with that until book two]) and Six and Sarah are dating :D

Work Text:

Sarah took in a deep breath. She gripped the sides of her lunch tray, hoping she didn’t look as nervous as she felt.

What did Sarah have to be nervous about? She was just approaching a girl to ask to sit with her. Then again, she was the most gorgeous girl Sarah had ever seen.

Sarah decided fuck it. She could do it. So she took the few steps she needed and suddenly she was in front of the girl.

She had long raven hair, pulled back into a ponytail. Her face was covered by the textbook she was reading, she seemed to be doing math homework.

“Hey, is this seat taken,” Sarah asked.

The girl looked up at Sarah and seemed to take her in. Sarah wanted to cower underneath that gaze. It was so intense yet so beautiful as well.

“Well that depends,” the girl said, dropping her textbook. “Are you going to try and kill me?”

Sarah had to laugh. It was such an absurd statement to make here, in Paradise high, where the most that ever happened were some boys getting caught cow tipping.

“No, no,” Sarah said, still grinning. “I just want some company for lunch.”

The girl looked her over once more, seeming to gauge her reaction, before the girl smiled and pulled out the seat.

“Good,” the girl said, smiling. “I’ve dealt with too much of that over the past few months.”

For a second Sarah thought she was being serious then the girl grinned and wrapped an arm around Sarah’s shoulder. “You should’ve seen your face. I’m Maren.”

“Nice to meet you,” Sarah said, reaching out her hand. “I’m Sarah.”

Maren took her hand, smiling. “So have you lived here all your life Sarah?”

Sarah sighed, “was it that obvious?”

“Pretty much,” Maren said, leaning back. “You give that whole, ‘never left my small town’ vibe.”

“Thanks,” Sarah said, brushing some stray hairs behind her ear.

They chatted all of lunch, and Sarah found herself more attracted to Maren. She wasn’t just some girl, she was intelligent and resourceful. Half of her clothes had been thrifted, and on her neck was a small coil that seemed to be homemade.

After lunch Sarah watched Maren walk away. She caught sight of the girl’s doc martins, they covered up most of her ankle but Sarah could see a little sliver of it. On her leg it looked like there was some kind of burn mark. It should’ve scared Sarah but it only brought her intrigue to a maximum. She knew she wasn’t going to get this girl out of her head anytime soon. And Sarah wasn’t sure she even minded that much.
