Work Text:
Jack bit his lip, worried as he glanced at Waylon. Waylon's been acting strange– well, stranger than usual. When they began their relationship, Jack didn't expect much to change, except for increased affection.
Anytime Jack tried to reach out, to put a hand on Waylon's shoulder or to lean into him, Waylon pulled away with a slight flinch.
So, he stopped– Waylon didn't seem comfortable with it, and while it was hard to remember his self-imposed rule of don't touch Waylon, he could do it for Waylon. However, this seemed to… be wrong? Jack wasn't sure how to explain it, as he increased the little things he did for Waylon (building gadgets, making fudge, cleaning, adjusting what he could to make Waylon more comfortable), Waylon seemed to withdraw more.
“Waylon?” Jack hesitantly called out, catching Waylon's attention who turned to him. He watched the slump of Waylon's shoulder, as if he was holding the world on his shoulders.
“Are you okay?” Jack asked as he tapped his hands against his work bench.
“I'm fine,” Waylon stared at him with confusion, “...Are you okay?”
“Yes! It's just, um, okay so– well–” Jack was cut off by Waylon's gaze narrowing with concern.
“I was worried,” Jack admitted, “You didn't like me touching you and then when I stopped, you looked even worse and I don't know what to do.”
Waylon stayed quiet for a few seconds before sighing and moving closer to Jack, reaching out and placing a scaled hand on his shoulder.
Waylon took in a deep breath, his face scrunching up as he struggled to string his words together.
“I… like your touch,” Waylon said after stumbling over his words, “I like it, but I'm not used to it.”
“What do you want to do about it?” Jack asked before quickly adding “Together,” at the end of his sentence just so it couldn't be misunderstood– he doesn't want Waylon to think he was going through it alone or that Jack would ignore his wants.
“I need to… get used to it,” Waylon still seemed reluctant.
“Are you sure?” Jack asked as he reached up and hovered his open hand above the one Waylon rested on his shoulder.
“I'm sure,” Waylon stated, sounding more confident this time. “I just want to get used to it.”
“Okay,” Jack whispered as he lowered his hand onto Waylon's, “Just tell me when to stop and I will, tell me when it's too much and tell me when you want anything.”
Waylon nodded, “You too.”
Jack chuckled and agreed, “Me too.”
