If you are procrastinating something else by reading this fic, I understand! I do the same! But that doesn't mean that it is good.
Be gentle with yourself yet ruthless with your environment.
Even if you don't get up and do the thing right now, turn the screen off. Rest your eyes. Let your brain have the space it needs to process things, even if it hurts. It's going to be ok.Sometimes, running from your pain isn't the answer. Pain is a part of life. Constantly trying to avoid it, trying to always feel good and avoid feeling bad, isn't healthy. I know it feels horrible —trust me, I know— but drowning yourself in numbing coping mechanisms isn't a good way to live your life. You can achieve peace with your pain. It isn't well known or talked about a lot, not when every big company out there wants to sell you something addictive and numbing, but it is okay to accept being in pain. It's important, even, to learn how to live in your body even while it feels like you're being torn apart from the inside out. It takes practice, and it's literally the opposite of fun, but your life will be better if you can withstand your pain instead of running from it.
Practice sitting in your pain, no distractions, just for a minute. Exist fully in your body, feel each part of yourself from your head to your toes. It's alright if you can't do it for long; things like this take practice, after all. But patience builds tolerance, and many of us need to build up that tolerance, even if we really don't want to.
It's okay to take medicine, to scroll on TikTok and read for hours on end, but don't use these things constantly. Check in with your body, even if it hurts. Even if it sucks. Even if you don't want to. Even if it's just long enough to see if you need to eat or drink or sleep, take a moment to take stock of yourself.
And if you aren't in any pain right now, that's great! Be thankful for it, because not everyone has the luxury, and you will be in pain sooner or later. That is not a threat, but a fact of life. Everyone experiences pain. Some people are better at dealing with it than others. Don't let your current ability, or lack thereof, keep you from improving.
