Summary
Will Byers moves away after graduation, going to college in New York with Jonathan, leaving Hawkins, Indiana and everything that came with it as a bleak memory (and occasional nightmare). Mike Wheeler can't bring himself to do the same. Mike writes stories about the entire party constantly, but he writes about El more. He writes about Will as much as he breathes.
Will and Mike had silently agreed to go no-contact right before Will left, one long look accompanied by silence being all they needed to know that this might be the end for them.
Will Byers doesn't find it too hard to move on enough to talk to other people, to fill in blanks. But what he does find hard, is finding someone he can really talk to. Nobody he meets will ever understand what happened to him in Hawkins from 1983 to 1987, nobody tangible at least. Mike decides Christmas would be a good time to break their no contact, calling Will nonstop and inviting him to a new year's party, one last trip to Hawkins, one more meetup.
