Summary
"This time of year, miracles shouldn't be expected."
Those were the words that Yuka's mother had told her. The tumor would be her end, and yet, the idea of living on, not in sadness, but happiness, which pushed her to live every day the best she could. How could she not? When a little sister shouldn't make their big brother sad. But the walk she had produced a miracle that didn't bring her closer to surviving, but to accepting what came after.

When the End Comes

"This time of year, miracles shouldn't be expected."
Those were the words that Yuka's mother had told her. The tumor would be her end, and yet, the idea of living on, not in sadness, but happiness, which pushed her to live every day the best she could. How could she not? When a little sister shouldn't make their big brother sad. But the walk she had produced a miracle that didn't bring her closer to surviving, but to accepting what came after.
Notes: writing isn’t bad, but it’s also clear that either the author is young or just didn’t actually grab the intent of the Modulo manga or adult themes. The political message about immigration is lost as is the intent of WHY Yuji didn’t step into the fights in canon. It’s clear the author doesn’t understand this and while fan fiction can obviously do whatever it wants, if you aren’t trying to make the source material better than what is the point? Yuji not stepping into the fight, is the point. Otherwise, he would have ended up just like Gojo, a slave to the system. It would also halt the progress that is being made because the point is that Yuji SHOULD be too old to be called upon so it makes sense that he hangs back. The future generation will never grow and they’ll become reliant on one person if Yuji steps in to fix their problems every time.
Gojo clan is being majorly mischaracterized here. As is Yuji and Mifuyu. The whole point is the underage, but doing a convincing underage story that doesn’t read like grooming is also hard. This is grooming lol which would be fine it is was tagged. Like Yuka acts like a kid. She acts like a 16 year old. It is painfully obvious that she’s a kid. She’s not wise for her age. She’s not old beyond her years. She’s a 16 year old being groomed by a grown ass man, which would be fine if again it was tagged. But I’m not sure if the writer even meant for it to read as grooming. Mifuyu calling Yuji out for grooming reads like the author wants her to be in the wrong when she’s a mother understandably worried about her kid being taken advantage of by a grown ass man in his 80s.
Also, poor Mifuyu is being written like a Tiger parent when in the manga we come to see that she’s anything but. Yuka has the damn 10 shadows technique, why in the hell would she need Rika, versus her brother with a heavenly stricken meaning he had no cursed energy at all. Was the way she took the ring, harsh, yes, but she just didn’t want her son to die which we see that he was just about to die before he got Rika’s help. We’re also told that she absolutely loves her kids but only acted the way she did to balance out the fact that Yuta and Maki spoiled them. None of that is apparent here. Mifuyu Is written like a stereotypical unfeeling uncaring parent, which she is not.
It’s also kind of weird how Yuka and Cross’s friendship is undermined here and presented as one sided when that’s not at all true. Get Yuka with Yuji, that’s why anyone is here after all, but don’t do it at the expense of someone’s character unnecessarily or at least tag it as bashing or whatever other way that lets the reader know a certain character will be different than canon. Find a way around them that doesn’t involve major mischaracterizations. The romance aspect didn’t even need to be a thing as it’s not even explicitly stated in the manga so turning it isn’t something here for the sole purpose of making Cross the bad guy who she has to turn down just to be with Yuji was weird.
Like the fic doesn’t seem to be self aware of what it is.
