Summary
Suguru is a college student with a camera and an obsession. A pack of wolves in the far North draws him in - the pack is unique, intelligent, perplexing - the perfect subject to study for class - and to satisfy his own curiosity. At the near-end of winter, the strangest thing happens - the pack vanishes, for no reason, and Suguru is left with more questions than ever before.
Satoru escaped from a research facility as a teenager, only to be saved and taken in by a trio of werewolves, like himself. They'd built a life for themselves out at the edges of society, close to the boreal wilderness which they retreated to each year to ride out the effects of the curse - to be trapped in wolf form for the winter. Through the time spent living with them, he'd figured out most of what being a human was about - a real human, not someone who grew up in a lab, not someone who lived a life of silence and isolation. They taught him how to drive (he's still bad at it), they made him get his GED (thanks to Shiu for the fake IDs), and they made him get a job, but, all of a sudden, they're giving him yet ANOTHER instruction- the alleged "next step": finding a mate.
