Summary
“Nothing's going on.” Mike said, his voice coming out sharper than intended. It wasn’t like he could tell Will he was getting drunk every other day so he could try to drown out the fact that he was a disgusting queer, in love with his best friend. “Sorry.” He looked down at his lap. He could feel his thighs bleeding underneath the blanket. “Im just tense, with the whole apocalypse thing. It’s nothing.”
Will looked over Mike’s face in the contemplating way he always did when he didn’t believe Mike. “That’s not nothing,” he breathed. “I know we’re all dealing with what happened with Vecna…but you’ve been drinking a lot Mike,” his voice was getting shakier as he continued to speak. “Im really worried about you.”

The alcohol definitely calmed him down. Quieted the panic in his head that came with being a queer. But he still knew what he was. He still thought about it. He still wanted to die.

Mike Wheeler has a lot of internalized homophobia. He drinks a lot to try and cope with his self hatred and constant thoughts of suicide, but no matter how much he drinks, he can't escape his love for Will.
