   Summary

   Once upon a time, Demetri was offered to a god, which taught him several useful lessons about power, humiliation, and never trusting your wife.

   Then he escaped to Greece and, against his better judgment, stayed.

   What follows is Demetri’s front-row view of the Volturi becoming the Volturi, which is far less dignified than history will someday pretend. Along the way, he acquires something dangerously close to a life, several attachments he had no intention of developing, and one truly catastrophic problem in the shape of Felix.

   Felix is the newest addition to the guard, which would be less of an issue if he were not so offensively easy to want. Demetri is, naturally, doomed within seconds.

   After all, one more spectacularly bad idea can scarcely affect the prevailing standard.
