    The question hit Bucky like a bag of bricks. It broke her from her thoughts, and snapped her eyes away from that sliver of skin. Surely, Captain America didn't fly into enemy territory at 11:00 at night, just to check that her ex…ex girlfriend was okay.
    (Ex? Had they broken up? Bucky assumed as much. Radio silence for months, it was a logical conclusion. But neither of them had said the words. Still, it wasn't like Bucky had seen anyone since. Who could compare to Sam Wilson, anyway?)
    "Im fine,” was Bucky’s knee jerk reaction.
    “You're lying.”
    “You didn't come over here just to check in, Sam—"
    Sam stared at the floor, Bucky sat not even three feet away from her on the edge of the bed. “I saw the news," the Captain muttered.
