Chapter 1: Kokone the Magical Girl Fan

Notes:

It’s been 2 months since I last posted anything. Sorry about that. I was just working on something really big, and I wanted to finish it before I started this. I won’t be taking another multi-month break again, at least for a while.

Here’s the OST:

Chapter Text

Kokone stood in front of a large, purple, cube-like monster that had massive, powerful arms and a wide, gaping maw while wearing a pink, frilly dress with white stockings that went up to the center of her thighs and holding a pink wand that had a golden head in her right hand. To her right was a small, yellow teardrop-shaped creature with a dark orange diamond-shaped symbol on its forehead. The three of them were surrounded by all sorts of stores and restaurants.

“Kokone, this thing doesn’t look very agile. If you can get behind it, defeating it shouldn’t be too hard.”

The pink haired girl nodded her head before dashing at the monster in front of her. It quickly swiped at her head, causing her to slide onto the ground to evade its attack. Once she had managed to get behind it, she shot a sizable beam of magic at its back. Right as her attack was about to hit it, the beast quickly turned around and opened its mouth wide before shooting the attack back at her.

“Kokone, watch out!” Her fairy yelled.

The pink haired girl rolled to her side to avoid being hit by the projectile, causing her enemy to slam its massive limbs onto the ground, releasing two purple shockwaves toward her. As they were about to collide with their target, the magic user let out a shout.

“Barrier!”

A large pink square barrier appeared in front of her and withstood the attacks before vanishing.

“If I can manage to get just one hit on this thing, I should come out victorious.” She said to herself.

The creature let out a powerful roar before using its arms to roll itself over to its enemy.

“Now’s my chance to do just that.” She thought as she leapt to the left.

Not giving the monster any opportunity to turn itself around, the pink haired girl let out a shout.

“Chains!”

Suddenly, several pink chains shot out of the ground and wrapped themselves around her enemy’s arms and forehead. It let out a growl and attempted to snap them in two, but to no avail.

“Time to bring this battle to a close!” She cheerfully yelled as she raised her staff and pointed it at the beast. “Pink Heart Punishment!”

Kokone shot a huge pink beam with small pink and white hearts inside of the projectile toward the monster. The attack slammed into her enemy and engulfed it, causing it to let out an agonized roar before swiftly disintegrating. Once the beam had dissipated, the only thing left of it was a pile of purple dust that was promptly blown away by a strong breeze.

“Haha. Good work. You did great, Kokone.” The fairy said before flying around the pink haired girl in a circle. “Kokone.” It calmly said. “Kokone.” It raised its voice. “Kokone Rurushiki.” Its voice now resembled that of an adult male as it grew slightly louder.

-

Kokone opened her eyes and turned her head slightly to the right to see her math teacher, a bespectacled man with short black hair, staring at her.

“Are you all right?”

“Y-Yeah. I just got a little lost in thought.” She said before letting out a nervous laugh.

“I see. Well, do you think you could solve the problem on the whiteboard?” He calmly asked.

“Y-Yep. Sure can.” She stood up and walked to the front of the room.

-The next period-

Upon being let out of her math class, Kokone immediately headed to the literature club’s room. Once inside, she quickly took her laptop out of her backpack, placed it on the desk closest to the room’s lower door, and began to view the rest of the episode of Aurora Wedding, the magical girl anime she had been watching before she had to pause it to come to school. Right as the episode was about to end, she heard the door behind her open, and a blue haired, brown eyed girl that was a year older than her entered the room.

“You’re here again?” She asked, letting out a sigh. “What did I tell you about coming to the literature club to watch anime?”

The pink haired girl quickly paused the episode and turned to look at her.

“Sorry, Senpai, it’s just that since usually nobody besides you comes here during lunch, it makes this one of the better places for me to just sit down and watch anime without having to worry about any loud noises or someone being annoying.”

“I understand, but as this club’s president, I can’t just let someone who doesn’t have even the slightest intention to read a book in here so that they can watch their magical girl shows.”

“Ahh… can you at least let me stay here for one more day? I promise that I’ll find somewhere else to watch my anime from now on tomorrow.”

She smiled slightly.

“All right. But you better keep to your word. If I see you here tomorrow, I won’t hesitate to kick you out.”

“Thank you, Senpai. You’re so kind.” Kokone cheerfully said as she stood up and hugged the blue haired girl as tightly as she could.

We already had this same conversation yesterday, and on Friday too. When it comes to you, I’m a real pushover. She thought as her lips formed a slight smile, and she hugged her back.

-A few hours later-

Eventually, the school day ended, and Kokone began to walk home.

“I should be able to finish all of Mystic Album tomorrow. I already watched 30 episodes of Aurora Wedding in one day; 11 episodes should be nothing.” She cheerfully said to herself.

As she walked up the hill toward her house, a gust of wind that was so powerful that the pink haired girl was suddenly launched into the air blew past the area.

“W-What’s happening?” The pink haired girl shouted as she looked down at the ground to see that she was at least a hundred feet in the air. “W-Why am I in the sky? A-Am I going to die?”

As she began to fall toward the ground, a huge black mech zoomed through the sky and caught her with its right hand.

“Hey, girl. Are you all right?” An unfamiliar voice asked.

Kokone turned her head to the right to see a young blue haired, blue eyed child who wore a black dress with a white hem sitting atop the machine’s head. In her right hand was a white staff that had a cylindrical head with a white outer shell and a black inner section that was about half her height.

“A-A giant robot? Are you some sort of mad scientist testing out your invention for the first time?”

“Nah. Just a magical girl. The name’s Karen Hoshi, by the way. It’s a pleasure to meet you.”

“It’s a pleasure to meet you too, Karen.” The pink haired girl cheerfully said, calming down as her lips formed a soft smile.

It took a handful of seconds before she processed what the blue haired girl had actually said.

“W-Wait! Y-You’re a what?”

“Yep. You heard me right. I’m a magical girl.”

She attempted to say something, but the only things that came out of her mouth were random noises as she began to breathe heavily.

“You all right? It sounds like you’re hyperventilating.”

Kokone went silent for a few seconds before taking a deep breath and attempting to speak once again.

“…Magic and magical girls are both real…” She suddenly burst into laughter. “This just went from a completely ordinary Tuesday to the greatest day of my life!” She got on her hands and knees. “Lady Karen, can you please teach me how to become a magical girl?”

Upon hearing the pink haired girl’s words, she cocked her head to the right and turned it downward slightly to look at the ground.

“A magical girl isn’t exactly something you can become, at least not in this world. Besides, if you knew anything about us, you’d absolutely be grateful that you’re not one.”

After Karen had finished talking, the two girls went silent for several seconds until Kokone decided to speak up.

“…Anyway, where is this huge mech even headed?”

“It’s going toward the center of the forest in the outskirts of this city. There’s something I need to do there. Once we get to my destination, I’ll have it put you on the ground while I accomplish-“

Before she could finish her sentence, a dark blue beam of magic slammed into the machine’s side, causing it to let out an explosion and plummet toward the ground.

“WE’RE HIT!” Karen screamed.

The pink haired girl let out a panicked shriek before the robot landed on top of two large trees. Upon making impact with the ground, the wand in Karen’s hand and a walkie talkie that she had in her pocket were sent flying throughout the area. She quickly jumped off the mech and let out a cough as she quickly turned her head from left to right.

“Hey, Kokone, are you all right?” She asked.

“Yeah, I’m fine.” She responded as she got off the mech.

As she spoke, Karen walked around the area while staring at the ground in an attempt to find her wand.

“Damn it. I can’t see with all this smoke and debris in the way.” She murmured to herself.

As she continued to search for her belongings, a loud, thundering noise echoed throughout the woods as the ground shook. With each passing second, the sound grew louder and louder.

“Damn it! They found me!”

“They? K-Karen, what are you talking about?”

“Get out of here immediately. Go back to wherever you were headed before you encountered me, and forget about everything you saw and heard when you were on my mech. You’re not their target, so if you leave now, you won’t be in any danger.”

“I-I can’t do-“

“I’m not here to argue with you! For your own safety, get out of here now!”

“A-All right…” Kokone begrudgingly said before turning around and running into the bushes to her left.

Once she was no longer her field of view, Karen turned around and ran deeper into the woods.

“Why is this happening? I just met a magical girl, and now she’s pushing me away. This isn’t fair.” She murmured to herself.

After another minute of running, the pink haired girl stepped on something hard.

“Huh? What’s this?” She bent down and grabbed a white cylindrical object from inside the shrub.

As she stared at it, a large blue orb slammed into the ground in front of her, forming a large crater in it. Not even a second later, an unfamiliar voice that sounded like it belonged to a girl around her age called out to her.

“You, relinquish that device, or you shall be shot on the spot.”

The pink haired girl’s eyes widened as she turned her head to the right to see a massive mech with lengthy silver legs, black ankles, and matching feet. The cockpit had two large silver holes in its front and was mostly black with light blue accents to the left, right, and bottom of it, and on its sides were two missile launchers that were the same colors as it. Kokone began to back away from the machine.

“M-Ma’am, please do-don’t-“

“Final warning. Hand over the item in your right hand, or else you will be shot, and most likely, killed.”

Before she could do anything, a soft, feminine voice began to emit from the object in her hand.

“Kokone… po…wer… need power… sur…survival. Kokone… m…y power?” It said, its voice glitching and cutting out with every few words.

“Y-Yes! I need your power! Please! I-I don’t want to die!” The pink haired girl shouted as she closed her eyes as tightly as she could.

“Then… power sh…all be… to wi…wield.”

Suddenly, a pink beam that was so bright that it caused the pilot of the mech to close her eyes shot into the sky, piercing the clouds.
