Work Text:
Just a little bit longer, just be on their feet and be personable and say everything's fine, for just a little bit longer.
Then Sausage said that he saw her *again*, in the crypt, there were two Graecie's again maybe, maybe the doppelgänger was back, but she was too tired to put much thought into it.
She was here, she was with Zam going to her room, she promised.
And Zam agreed, and told Graecie everything was okay, and that she was okay, and she should just rest.
Yeah, yes, that sounded really good actually.
But Legs was still here.
Just a little bit longer.
Legs was still here.
He stood at the end of her room closest to the doorway, ever anxious and bouncing lightly on the balls of his feet, eyes looking between Gracie and the floor, trying to gage whether he truly wanted to speak or not.
"I'm, um, I'm just really glad you're okay. Just, take a second to take care of yourself, okay? I would hate to see you ever, um, not be okay."
She blinked quick and deliberate a couple times, as quick as she could anyway, can't keep your eyes closed for too long and fall asleep yet, and smiled soft and bright.
"I promise I will take good care of myself, and I, I will be perfect as a lamb tomorrow. Okay?"
Graecie took in Legundo's features to the best of her ability, realizing for the first time how genuinely worried he looked, how the skin directly under his eyes was tinted in an almost bruise from a combination of anxiety and not enough sleep.
She stepped slightly closer, not enough to get in his personal space, but enough to show that she was present.
"You take care of yourself too, okay?"
She held out a hand, extending the pinkie, an otherwise silent question as well as a promise, offering it for him to hold if he wanted.
"I- Yeah. Yeah. I- I will."
Legs looked between her and the floor again, curling his other four fingers towards his palm, and wrapped their pinkies together.
"Good."
The dark spots in Graecie's vision became more prominent, maybe it would be a good idea to close her eyes for longer than a quick blink, maybe.
"I don't- I don't have any glowberries or anything. I wanted to give you something, as a snack, if you- I'm sorry."
She heard him step a bit closer, saw him fidgeting with his hands pressed together.
"No no, it's okay, I'm okay. I have some glowberries, I have food."
Maybe she can- maybe- just for a minute.
"Zam made me some coffee, and I have apples, I'm-"
Legundo couldn't say he didn't see it coming, and thankfully he was close enough to catch the sudden brunt of her weight, light as it may be, without her fully falling into a heap.
"Graecie?"
Slow and calm breathing was his only response, her head lulled to the side and pressed against his chest gently, finally having succumbed to exhaustion.
He adjusted both of their forms, his arms to be able to hold more than just her upper half and his legs in position to stand fully again, her body so it was in a more secure hold and not just how she fell.
"Okay. That's-"
Graecie very slightly adjusted her head and further turned it against Legs' chest, and he smiled softly.
"Okay."
He stood from the crouch where he caught her, her small body in a comfortable enough hold for him *to* fully stand, and carried her the couple feet to where she slept.
He turned down the comforter just enough, placed her gently on the bed, walked towards the end of it and reached for her white shoes to untie and carefully remove them, then covered her fully.
He hesitated briefly, and swiped a thumb along the length of a strand of Graecie's hair a couple times comfortingly, looking to the already asleep baby dragon on a small bed of its own beside her.
"That's a good girl, Fleece. You keep her protected while we're not in here, alright? She's important."
