Eva Stratt tries to give her astronauts some media training. It is, predictably, a waste of time.
“I could never afford this on a teacher’s salary. I don’t even want to ask how much it cost her,” he laughs. “But Carl has a matching one, so that’s nice.”
Ah yes, the famous yet mysterious “Carl” who accompanies Dr. Grace everywhere. Officially the head of his security detail, yet making a name in the scientific community on his own behalf due to Dr. Grace’s insistence on putting his name first on many of the papers he publishes with surprising frequency for a man with so much on his plate (although Carl’s last name is never included in these publications; I’m bluntly told ‘it’s classified’ when I ask. Those are the only words Carl says to me for the duration of the interview).
Dr. Grace offers me a fun-sized packet of sour skittles. I politely decline. Knowing of his penchant for candy, I’ve brought a bag of White Rabbit Candy, and his eyes light up as he takes them.

Doctor Grace scrunches his face in an expression that surprises me.DRG: I’m still quite put out by that, actually. A Nobel prize in chemistry as a molecular biologist! One more reason to get on that ship, I suppose.
He laughs and unwraps one of the candies I’ve brought

“You fucked the reporter?” Stratt asked, taking a deep breath to keep her voice neutral.“What? It’s not like Gracie was going to do it, and she deserved something for her efforts. Plus, I deserve to get some before I spend almost a decade in space with no bitches!”
“Aaaaaannnnnnnd that is my cue to go throw myself in the ocean. Goodbye now,” Grace declared, face burning.
Eva began drafting an email to the lawyer that she appointed especially to handle anything Ilyukhina related- they were going to need another NDA.
