Mother’s day

Summary:

lloyd notices jay getting his mother something for mother’s day which sparks an idea for lloyd to get nya a little something

Work Text:

“Hey Zane! Can I get some help please?” Lloyd heard Jay call from the other room. When Zane did not answer the call, Lloyd decided to see what Jay needed help with.

 

Lloyd peaked his head into Jay’s room. Jay was sitting on his bed, eyebrows scrunched as he was looking over a card. There was a small bag to his side.

 

Jay looked up, noticing Lloyd, “Oh! Hey, have you seen Zane?” He asked.

 

“I haven’t, sorry,” Lloyd said, “what do you need help with?” he asked.

 

“I need some tissue paper for my moms present,” Jay answered, “He had some the other week for Cole’s birthday so I was wondering if he had any left over.” he explained.

 

“Oh!” Lloyd should have pierced that together, “Well if I see him, I can ask him for you. Tell your mom I said happy birthday.”

 

Jay cocked an eyebrow, “Birthday? It’s for mother’s day.”

 

Lloyd had been about to leave, but froze. He turned back around, looking at his friend, “What?” he asked.

 

“The first is for mother’s day. It’s this Sunday .” Jay repeated.

 

Lloyd’s eyebrows furrowed. “Uhm.. what exactly is mother’s day?” he questioned. He felt a little stupid asking, but he had never celebrated it before. Misako had abandoned him when he was so young. Even though they were now reunited, Lloyd still held a bit of a grudge for her.

 

Jay blinked, a little shocked by the question. “Oh, it’s just a day to celebrate the mother figures in our lives,” he explained, “Sorry.. I forget i’m the only one on the team with a mom.”

 

“No- it’s fine! Don’t apologize!” Lloyd assured him, “I will uh.. go see if I can find Zane for you..”

Lloyd was dyslexic. It did not help that he had a poor education too. So when it came to writing, he was not all that great at it.

 

Mother’s day was just one day away. Ever since his talk with Jay, Lloyd had done a lot of thinking. He never saw Misako as his real mother. She may have given birth to him, but she never truly cared for him. However, he still had someone of a mother figure in his life.

 

He spent forever, erasing and trying to find the right words and hopefully spell them correctly. 

 

Even though he was magically aged up from tomorrows tea, Lloyd was very much a kid. Even though he was known to have a sassy attitude, he was also rather shy.

 

When mother’s day came, Lloyd began to panic about giving his card. He began to fidget and turn a shade of pink whenever the thought crossed his mind. He grabbed the card, holding it behind his back as he walked into the game room where the team usually hung out when there was nothing else to do.

 

Lloyd walked in there to see Nya and Kai sitting on the couch, flipping through TV stations. His breath hitched and his heart began to race. Was this such a good idea? Yes! It was! Lloyd slowly walked from around the corner.

 

Kai noticed him first, “Hey grasshopper!” he shot him a smile, “What are you up to?”

 

Lloyd’s cheeks began to turn a shade of pink again. He did not know what to say. He opened his mouth to speak, but no words came out.

 

Nya tilted her head, “Lloyd? Are you alright?” she asked.

 

Lloyd gulped. No turning back. He took the card out from behind his back and held it out to her, keeping his eye contact off of her.

 

Confused, Nya took  the card from him. “Is this for me?” she asked. Lloyd nodded his head, looking down.

 

He started to feel embarrassed. Nya was not his mom. She was probably laughing because of his horrible handwriting and even worse spelling.

 

“Aw! Lloyd!” Lloyd looked up, shocked to see Nya smiling. She sat the card beside her and opened her arms for a hug. Without any hesitation, Lloyd found himself wrapped in her hug.

 

Nya placed a kiss on the top of his head,  “Thank you,” she said softly, rubbing his back, “I am honored you see me like a mother.”

 

Lloyd did not know what to say. His face was still pink but he was filled with happiness. He only gave her a slightly tighter squeeze.

 

Kai smirked, “You know.. father’s day is next month-“
