Summary
She does not want to be a pessimist. She would certainly sleep more soundly if she were of a more sanguine disposition, but ever since the expedition was first proposed, that dread has settled in her gut, heavy and permanent. It visits her at night like an old friend come calling, though speaking always of calamity. Some disaster will befall this expedition, of this she is certain. She hopes only that the magnitude of the disaster is less than she fears.
