Work Text:
Yellow sighed as he opened the door to his & Blue’s shared room in the castle, sitting down heavily on the bed. He was supposed to be a force of justice, of fairness. Apparently, he couldn’t even do his one job right. Yellow was so sure he’d seen that floradinn steal one of Blue’s flowers, & yet it was just a random blue flower it took from the garden instead.
He should’ve known. He should’ve looked closer. Something, anything, to just be better. Maybe he could’ve–
Shit.
—
Blue stepped into their room to grab something, but paused when he saw the look on Yellow’s face for that split second before he realized who it was. He immediately noticed that look in his partner’s eyes, that one when he felt guilty over something he couldn’t have controlled or known about.
“Hey, Yellow. What’s the matter?” Blue asked, sitting beside Yellow.
“Oh, nothin’. Jus’ some flor’dinn.” Yellow replied rather vaguely. Okay, yeah, something was definitely wrong.
“Are you sure? You know you can talk to me, right?”
—
Damnit. Those words hurt every time Blue said them. Of course he could talk to him, but would he really get it? Chances are, probably not. But, that being said, Yellow also knew he’d just be concerned if he didn’t tell him, & it hurt even more to see that look on his face when it happened.
“Well, uh, y’know how ‘em flor’dinns are, try’na steal your flowers. Well, I thought i done seen one of ‘em takin’ your flowers. But when i went & yelled at ‘em for it, it was some other damn flower from the garden they done gone & found.” Yellow said, avoiding looking at Blue. God, he really was pathetic, huh? Crying to his boyfriend that he mistook a flower a floradinn had. He should probaby just go out to the yellow door again & actually fucking–
—
Blue knew what that look meant. Jeez, another of these, huh? He didn’t mind helping Yellow with his issues, of course, but he’d been a little stressed lately as well. It was just a bit hard, was all. Blue took Yellow’s hand, pulling him out of that all-too-familiar spiral.
“Hey, you know that you couldn’t have known it wasn’t one of my flowers, right? You’re thinking with hindsight in mind again. Look, I know you think you’re supposed to be the law of the land here & immediately know whether someone’s right or wrong, but that’s not true. You’re Yellow, my beloved, & that’s all you really need to be.”
—
Yellow’s eyes burned with tears, but he refused to let them fall. He refused to let them fall. He wasn't that weak, after all. He briefly glanced at the now fading marks on his–... he quickly averted his eyes.
"You wouldn’t get it.” Yellow said, roughly wiping away the tears that ended up falling despite his efforts.
“I think I would, if you’d just let me understand. I love you, you know that, I just hate seeing you so unhappy like this.”
“Yeah, well, you ain’t the one goin’ & judgin’ them people ‘round ‘ere.”
“Then let me help you. I care about you, I don’t want you to be so upset all the time.”
Yellow hesitated for a moment, but he relented, properly looking Blue in the eyes for the first time since the start of their conversation.
“... Alright, you can help. I ‘unno what you’re goin’ do, but I ‘ppreciate it though.”
—
“There’s the Yellow I know. C’mere, darling.” Blue said, offering a hug, which Yellow quickly accepted.
Blue could tell that Yellow was crying, even if he was trying to be discreet about it, but he didn’t comment on it, not wanting to embarrass him or anything. He knew he was a bit sensitive about that. Blue was just happy Yellow wasn’t trying to punish himself again for something that wasn’t even something to be punished over, like mistaking a blue flower for another blue flower.
—
God, Yellow was so grateful to have Blue around. If he weren’t there during his low points.. Yellow didn’t really want to think about what he might’ve done. Even now, when he was doing a bit better, it was still hard to contain those thoughts that told him to do horrible things to himself, in spite of the fact that he knew Blue would be devastated if he actually did it.
“You really are an angel, ‘yknow that?”
“Yeah, I think you might’ve told me that before.”
