Work Text:
Life was very dull for Green.
As soon as they came into existence, they knew what they had to do; pretend, manipulate, and kill. This ship and its crew were nothing more than a buffet practically created for their enjoyment.
Beyond that, there was no other reason to continue. Not that they didn't want to—on the contrary—they wanted to end this journey and continue their bloody path around the world; that was their plan.
They were twisted, no doubt about it. But they were also clever; they were able to impersonate this stupid farmer and gain the trust of the others so fast, so easily. And how could be bad or a dumb move to be cruel? Seeing others care for others makes them nauseous, what's the point of defending another life if it's not your own, and putting yourself in danger?
Sure, that was their mindset, but some things didn't go as planned.
White was an obnoxious, who definitely didn't think before speaking, crew mate. Spend a lot of time around them, and with that they discovered that—like the person they are impersonating—they are new to the ship.
Luckily enough, wasn't hard to find them alone. An easy target, who didn't hesitate to turn their back to them.
Green had been so sure and determined, they wanted to kill them, they were going to kill them.
But as they waited for the "perfect moment", the more time they spent with them, listening to them talk. Mostly nonsense, things that prove a clear lack of parental love, and thoughts.
The worst part is that Green was listening and responding sincerely against their will.
Of course, they still kept up the act of the worm farm and blah blah, but from time to time they would share their own thoughts as well, regarding what the other was saying.
This delayed the idea of killing them, although only them specifically; they were fully capable of killing Blue, but whenever they went after White, always got distracted...
It was so frustrating, they were right there, but Green wasn't doing anything. They kept trying to spend more time with them, but never acted on their plan.
The worst part of it all, and the one that confuses them the most, is that Green started to protect them.
”I wouldn't do that if I were you.” they spat out before they could even think about it, grabbing White's shoulder and stopping them.
”Uh—” White looked terribly lost. They were just going into the same room Orange had entered; they looked lonely, so why not talk to them? But they were stopped before they could. ”Do what?”
It was then that Green realized their mistake, and their gloomy expression changed to a sillier one, letting go of their shoulder. ”I mean...! Orange is sooo.. busy right now, they said to me that they didn't wanted to be disturbed, you k-know?”
”They said that?” White asked, that didn't sound like them..
”Uh-huh!” they nodded, ”I get them, I also got things to do, those floors aren't going to clean themselves, are they? But you know I don't mind your presence.”
White spent a lot of time with Green, although it was also partly because Green found it hard to let them go. Even by how incompetent Orange was at their job, Green didn't know if they wanted to take the risk.
When they were cleaning, they let White be near them, not helping of course, because it seems they never learned basic manners. Not like they care, really.
Green tells themself that they only despise them, and specifically wants to be the one to kill them. Orange can kill others, but this one is theirs. Yes... that's it. That makes sense.
White is incredible annoying and desperate for attention. It was natural to want a grotesque death at their own hands, reserved for this idiot. That's should explain their behavior.
”Oh, okay! I'll give you more of my precious time, hehe.”
It was only a matter of time.
Lime and Orange were dead. White was still alive.
The worst part is that by spending time with White, they didn't had any more opportunities to take out other crewmates. Lime and Orange wasn't their work—so far, the only person they had killed is Blue.
So they decided to make the smartest decision, and not just eliminate White, but the rest of the ship with a single move: cut off the oxygen.
Green has to admit that they don't really know what they were expecting, everything definitely took a weird turn. The lack of oxygen didn't really affect them, so they didn't know that others could get... like that.
But they knew better than to show their surprise, so they played along with everyone—made some worms related story and mixed well with the group.
White acted like they were drunk, and was babbling about stuff meanwhile practically throwing themself on top of them instead of cuddling.. or doing whatever they are doing with the rest.
”Woah! I feel amazing and so ready to start the day! Like everyday, of course.” they said, as if it hadn't been a while since they got up.
”You know, green really suits you.” they keep talking, wine long forgotten in the floor. ”I like green, it's so... striking, maybe that's why they use it for money! When I was a little bean my dad always said money is everything—I mean, duh? I don't know what I would do without all my beautiful gifts..! But also, you are green despite being more.. rural. But I guess it matches with the farm, and, umh.. grass.. and whatever there is in a farm.. what's important it that green is my favorite color, I like it in you.”
Green isn't sure if they are being insulted or flattered, but it's also true that the other isn't in their best shape.
Sitting here, watching White weaken and slowly lose strength, stirs a feeling in their chest that they weren't expecting. For some reason, seeing the crewmates like this brings them nothing but satisfaction for a well done job.. but White, despite being literally dying without knowing it, stays by their side and talks to them.
Green doesn't have the courage to answer them, so White keeps talking.
”Uh.. my parents..” said as they were recalling their own words. ”To be honest, my parents wouldn't like you; they told me that I shouldn't be around people with such a low status in job, because being with them would make me look like a loser, and others will call me a failure. And that would bring shame upon my family, but I.. I don't want to just ignore you, you know? You are nice. You listen to me. We are in totally different life's that for sure, but I don't think that's necessarily bad.. but my parents would get so mad at me, they always buy me everything I want, I don't want to contradict them and seem rude... but I just—don't know.”
Green can feel White's weight resting on their shoulders.
”I want to keep spending time with you after this, just hope people don't start calling me a massive loser like my parents say they would. If we are together we can do a lot of stuff—I have a tons of vacations to go! Usually I go alone but I won't mind having you there.. oh, and that whole wanting to be a captain dream? Pff, how hard can that be? I'm sure I could buy you a ship if I wanted to. Don't worry your little head about it.” Green noticed that White wanted to give them a pat, but their movements were too clumsy for that. ”I actually liked coming here, the place is cool, I think. I've never seen so many stars, too! Oh.. and of course, I managed to meet you.”
Against all will, Green desperately stood up from the ground—White lost their balance because of it and almost fell to the ground—and was ready to do something they shouldn't do and would make their plan completely pointless until...
”THERE IS NO OXYGEN!” Purple shout.
Everyone was getting dressed and running together to catch with Purple to deal with the problem at hand. White was also surprised and somewhat shocked, but they were having trouble handling themself in a stressful situation.
After putting on their hoodie, Green sighed and approached the other to help them to put on their pink shirt, button it up.
White spoke, ”Hey, quick question, would you still like me as a worm, right?”
Yeah, they are already starting to lose their mind.
”Let's get moving!” with that, they took White's hand and together ran to meet the rest of crewmates.
While they were organizing a plan to fix the ship, Green gently guided White with a hand on their back to sit on the ground and use the mask that connected to the tank with the little oxygen that remained for them.
”Breathe, breathe..” they said, in a soft tone that was not like them at all, that it was not an act.
Slowly but surely, White seemed to return to their senses.
”Woah..! Umh, Green..?” they blinked as Green put the mask back in it's place.
”I'm here.” they said, with a hand on their shoulder.
”Oh..” White watch them nervously. ”Umh, I guess that really happened, haha..” their laugh stopped for a moment, and fixed their gaze directly on Green. ”Thanks for helping me, eh.. gosh, I hope I didn't say anything weird.”
About that.. ”Not at all, don't you worry.” Green stood up from the ground where they had previously been crouching, and stretched their hand out towards the other. ”Let's catch up with the rest, okay?”
White hesitated for a few seconds, observing the gesture, but finally stood up, took their hand, and smiled. ”Yeah, of course!”
That smile made them feel that the failure of this plan might have been worth it.
Maybe they can't understand it, but for now it's okay—they can make sense of it later.
Right now, only one thing is clear:
White will never be harmed, not under their protection, Green will make sure of that.
