That was not the question Aulea had asked. Ardyn was beginning to get a sneaking suspicion that wasn’t the question his nibling wanted to ask, either. “The idea of equating gender and sex is both reductionist and patently absurd.”

Regis still isn't sure this is good idea — Noctis already struggles whenever he’s singled out as the prince at school, and how much more will that happen now that the King of Lucis has shown up for Kindergarten Career Day? — but Noctis had begged, and Regis had caved in before he’d really thought it through.
“My name is King Regis,” he starts, and the class obediently pipes up in unison: “Hello, King Regis!”

Summary
"You didn't call me because you were bored," his dad says then, the words quiet, and he sighs. Not one of annoyance, just... acceptance.
"No," Noct admits, and takes another bite of his muffin.
An impulsive call to his dad at three am has Regis showing up at Noct's apartment unannounced, leaving him scrambling to play host while struggling to hide the troubles bouncing about in his mind. But after an awkward night of muffins, snow-watching, and hot cocoa, Noct decides that maybe he's ready to talk after all.

Summary
"Very well," he says, unable to keep the resigned tone from his voice. "I'll stay."
At his words, Noctis stops his screaming, but breathy little sobs still escape him as tears trail down his face. "You're gonna stay?" he asks, swiping an arm across his snot-soaked nose.
Both the action and the hopeful note in his voice make Regis wince. He nods anyway. "Yes," he says, ruthlessly smothering the guilt that flares up. He'll stay, but only until Noctis inevitably falls asleep from exhaustion, and then he'll sneak away like the coward he is.
The aftermath of the daemon attack and the invasion of Tenebrae have taken a toll on eight year old Noctis, leaving him with separation anxiety and Regis at his wit's end. Desperate to ease Noct's fears, he turns to Ignis for answers, who gives him a solution: a stuffed animal to remind him of his dad and help him feel protected.

Summary
'And there you are! Right where I left you!' Regis smiled, tugging out the large book in the center row on the left end. He nodded in approval as he reviewed the title: "Matoya's Magical Muses: A Collection of Fairy Tales."
Why hadn’t he thought of this sooner? Bedtime stories were always the best way to put Noctis to sleep; perhaps the magic would work on Dear Old Dad.
Clutching the book to his chest, Regis turned to make his way out of the library… when he noticed a small light towards the back. He furrowed his eyebrows. Was someone researching… this late?

Summary
“Thanks for taking care of Iris,” Gladio says, “I’m glad she was with family at a time like that.”
Family.
They’d always said it a lot, they'd teased it a lot but to hear it from Gladio’s mouth, right in this moment of honest vulnerability makes everything else just a little more palatable.
“Of course,” Cor says, “What else could I have done?”Alternatively: Cor's biological family is just about large enough to fill a small closet, luckily he has chosen family in spades.

"Now," Clarus was saying to Gladio, the two of them on the patio before the grill, Gladio staring at it like it might bite him. "You always want to make sure you coat the grill in nonstick spray beforehand." He pointed at it and Gladio nodded. Clarus was full-dad today, in a loose button up t-shirt covered in moogles and an apron with scrawling text that read, 'Smokin' Hot Grill Master'.

Summary
His dad stays quiet, and Gladio can feel his eyes on him, watching him, the worry palpable, but he's not capable of finding the words to explain yet. He's pretty sure his dad already knows, though. If it's not about Ignis, there's not much else it could be, on this day in an hour that's still fairly early. "Is this about your mother?" his dad asks, once the silence has stretched beyond something anticipatory and worn thin, fraying into tension.
Gladio swallows, a few more stray tears slipping out. "Miss her," he offers, letting his dad make of that what he wants.
The ten year anniversary of his mom's death dawns, and Gladio tells himself he's fine. It's his dad he needs to worry about. His dad who, ten years later, still can't even speak his late wife's name. But Gladio? Gladio knows he's fine—and he is, until an old book series and a long-forgotten drawing show him otherwise. And through his grief, he and his dad both finally begin to heal.

"Argentum. Come here a minute."
Prompto glances up from his phone, blinking, eyes darting about nervously for a few seconds before settling on Cor. "Me?"

"Haa, right," Prompto says with a little laugh. "Uh, sorry. You needed something, sir?"
