Nice to read
I find these stories genuinely pleasant to read, whereas most stories have a certain amount of dislike or dread to the process of reading them. In these, bad things may still happen, it may even be a horror story, but for one reason or another it doesn't bring me down.

Summary
Harry Potter is a dragon. He's been a dragon for several years, and frankly he's quite used to the idea - after all, in his experience nobody ever comments about it, so presumably it's just what happens sometimes.
Magic, though, THAT is something entirely new.Comedy fic, leading on from the consequences of one... admittedly quite large... change.
This largely follows canon in many respects, but a lot of the more dangerous events aren't as dangerous as they are in canon. Instead Harry has a comparatively normal seven years at Hogwarts, getting a mostly-uninterrupted magical education, which if you think about it is quite an impressive feat for an intelligent dragon.
This fic features a broadly dotty but pleasant Dumbledore, Dean Thomas elevated to a coequal status of main character with Ron, Hermione and Neville, House Rivalries treated as a school in-joke, and a cast of many people who are not human.
It also features Dumbledore teaching classes, though only once he remembers to tell people about the class.

School fic. Sticks closely to canon except Harry's condition has made him conscientious and careful plus everyone's more like real children and adults.
I'm impressed a lot of the changes are simply because Percy was ashamed that Harry had to go to a different prefect for help.

Summary
In 1993, Gilderoy Lockhart points a stolen wand at Harry Potter and Ron Weasley with the intent to Obliviate them. The wand doesn't backfire. Gilderoy's "discovery" of the Chamber of Secrets is a short-term success.
Other consequences are not short-term at all.
Archived Author's Notes:
I was watching the Chamber of Secrets movie several years back when the scene in question began to play...and immediately I wanted to know what would happen if the wand had done what it was supposed to do. The answer got very complicated, very, *very* quickly.Blame Edgar Allan Poe for the title.
Beta work by Norcumi and Mrs_Stanley. Brit Spellcheck will be performed...soon.
*I use the first 7 books and the Tales of Beedle the Bard as canon, but there are moments from the films used because they left me with fun things to play with.

Snape keeps ending up with more responsibilities. This turns out rather well, all things considered.
Snape has had to consider the possibility for months, but tonight confirms it. Every single plan laid out for the next five years has just become useless. He doesn’t know how to replace them, and he has to.
Uneven, quality goes up and down. Technically gen, although couples are often commented on.
One that does nice things with Millicent Bullstrode.

Summary
Once upon a time, Harry Potter hid for two hours from Dudley in a chemistry classroom, while a nice graduate student explained about the scientific method and interesting facts about acids. A pebble thrown into the water causes ripples.
Contains, in no particular order: magic candymaking, Harry falling in love with a house, evil kitten Draco Malfoy, and Hermione attempting to apply logic to the wizarding world.

How things might have been a bit different if Harry was wild about Potion-making.
The only Harry Potter fanfic I've read that seems to keep Snape the same while making him a principal character. The only fanfic I've read that respects Ginny Weasley. A rare illustration of the purpose of social alliances and how they work in war. Rare for depicting a double agent openly serving both sides.
At times it's hard to tell what's at stake without consulting a synopsis of the relevant book (e.g. at Wikipedia). Told in a darkly comic style; sometimes the writing style is reminiscent of Lois McMaster Bujold's Miles Vorkosigan stories.
