"Hey, Markov," Marinette called out in a clear voice, as cool and confident as could be. Adrien loved when he saw her this way (although it was extremely rare); it reminded him of Ladybug. "What's the hardest song this game has?"
Markov flew out of Max's bag, looking every bit like a robotic kwami. His face disappeared briefly from his screen as he calculated. Once he had found the answer, his face reappeared; he smiled and replied cheerfully, "On this specific gaming machine, the most challenging song is Through the Fire and Flames by the British power metal band DragonForce, friend Marinette! The song is written in the key of C minor, with sections in the relative major of E-flat major played in standard E tuning. The album version has a primary tempo of 200 beats per minute, although it features sections that are slower, at around 170 beats per minute; these varying speeds contribute to the high degree of difficulty."

Adrien Agreste has always been lied to. Told that "everything will be just fine"; his mother would recover from her illness. That his father still loved him when the man was neglectful and borderline-abusive. He expected the world to coddle him; even his friends sometimes did, because they cared. That was the lie he told himself. Evidently, ignorance is in fact bliss. If he never knew of Monarch's identity, then clearly he couldn't be hurt by it. Marinette certainly seemed to believe that, hiding the terrible secret for over three long years. Taking his agency away inadvertedly, because that was "best" for him.
“Forget about her, okay? I’ll give you something Marinette never did. A choice."
It only took one offer from Lila Rossi, and a certain fox visiting under the moonlight for Adrien to make his first real decision, but it wasn't a mistake he ever planned on regretting...
