Summary
He hated every moment of it. Hated seeing Eddie walk through those doors. Hated feeling like the calls and texts would eventually taper off and he’ll no longer have Eddie in any capacity.
But…
But maybe, he just needed someone to remind him that flights go both ways. Like how a light can be turned off and on. Like how fire destroys and nurtures.
People leave from the airport.
But they also come back and arrive at the airport.

Summary
Eight years. That's how long this kid has been his. To let him go now, after Buck had been the one to make them all family and after so many ups and downs and the firehouse, hurts.
But that's life, isn't it? You watch kids grow up. You watch and let them leave the nest in pursuit of their own life and happiness. You watch them create a family of their own.
He would have had to do the same had Robert Jr. and Brook survived. He has had to watch May leave the nest.
And maybe it's time for Buck too.

So where did his dad get the bright idea of moving to El Paso?
And why the fuck did Buck not stop him?
Adults. They’re all stupid.
But one thing’s for sure.
He can’t stay here.
His dad wants to move here so badly? Fine. He can move here himself.

Summary
He needs Buck. That's what moving to El Paso - if you can even call it that considering the short time it was - taught him.
He needs Buck like he needs air. Needs him like he needs water and food. Even the short amount of time without Buck near made him feel like a fish out of water.
“Talk to me,” he pleads. “Make something okay.”

Summary
Buck’s love…when has it ever gotten people to stay?
But he doesn't know how he'll survive it when Eddie actually leaves. He's already dreading each passing day as it is.
At least being hurt means he has an excuse not to see him off, right? Because he swears he will break down as soon as the truck drives out of sight.
He wants to cry just at the thought of it.
Painkillers suck by the way. They make him all emotional.

Summary
“Maybe…maybe he didn't ask because you love it here.”
(He wanted to ask. He really did. But it's not exactly what you'd ask from your best friend right? To uproot his life for your own selfish reasons?)
“I do. Dad. Mom. Sister. Siblings. They’re here. But they...He and and his son. They’re my heart. My home. And one of them is already gone. And the other half…he’s leaving soon too.”
(His own heart wrenches hearing Buck call him and Christopher his heart and that they’re gone. At the same time, his heart gives a little flutter.)

Summary
“Hey, Tubbs,” he murmurs when the tabby circles his ankles later when he's in the middle of making dinner. “Where's your shadow?”
Like summoned, Crockett appears, tail wagging, and immediately goes to nuzzle at Tubbs like the short time away from the cat was too long, and the cat just takes it with good grace.
God, maybe this was a terrible decision because he misses Eddie tenfold watching them.
Then, suddenly, Hairy starts barking up a storm, making Buck alert because while Hairy is the stereotypical small dog with a huge bark, this is…threatening and hostile.

He should get the surgery. He should live. He should do it for himself, for his family.
He should stop chasing the people who don’t want him back.
But could he really forget?
The truth lies in the texts he's open to.
It lies in the flowers in his hands.
Forget-me-nots.
“I don't think the surgery is for me.”
