“Jean has given permission for me to share this with you. He says you all know the truth about his family.” Neil looks at Jeremy, Cat, and Laila to see if there any objections. When he finds none he continues.“My uncle stuart visited me a few days ago. Mom’s side, dont worry. They set a date for your parent’s trial. It’s set for the beginning of January, right before the fall season begins. At most you’ll miss a few days of practice. The opening statements will take place on January 4nd, and your testimony on the 5th. The trial will take place in New york since this is an international case.”
or basically: the rest of Jean’s first year at USC because november is so far away, featuring Jean’s parent’s trial, Jeremy getting away from his family, and spring championships.

His feet were moving before his brain had fully processed everything, and he was throwing himself down beside the backliner. There was nothing that could knock Jean down hard enough that he would not get back up again. He would only stay down if he couldn’t get back up.
Jean was pale, his pained breaths shallow.
“Show me what hurts,” Jeremy spoke as calmly as he could, but something wasn’t right. An eerie feeling hummed across his skin. He threw off his gloves and his helmet.
“I can’t, I can’t,” Jean was gasping over and over. His eyes were wide beneath the bars of his mask, gaze flickering back and forth up and down in a frantic pattern.
“What? You can’t what?” Jeremy’s hands hovered just above him, looking for the wound, the blood to staunch, something, anything he could do to help. He thought about stripping Jean of his gear, but thought better of it, not knowing where or what the injury was. A slow stream of blood poured from his nose. What was wrong? Why wouldn’t Jean just show him what was wrong? “What hurts?”
Jean’s eyes locked with Jeremy’s, grey and wide and terrified.
“I can’t feel anything.” It sounded like he was choking.

Summary
Mer Jean fic about him being rescued from the Nest (officially called Edgar Allan's Raven Park), an aquatic animal amusement park shut down after an abuse investigation sparked by a public exposure by Neil and Kevin. All the Ravens (except the Moriyamas, who run the park) are mers. Jean was a wild capture from the Mediterranean when he was fourteen. Jeremy is an animal behaviorist tasked, along with everyone else at the USC Research ‘Trojan’ Aquarium, with rehabilitating Jean. Due to his trauma and injuries, including an amputated dorsal fin that affects his ability to turn in the water, and therefore hunt, he isn't a candidate for release to the wild, and due to the way the other Raven mers pick on him, he can't be housed with other Raven mers. These special conditions make him an ideal candidate for being the Trojan Aquarium's first and only mer. They also make him one hell of a challenge, but luckily for them both, Jeremy loves a challenge.

“What is your problem?!” Jeremy practically yelled. From where they were, Jeremy was in front of Jean and facing the Wolves player, but Jean still took a step back. ”Leave him alone! What the fuck!”
All three of them: Jean, Jeremy, and the Wolves player, turned at the sound of the referee whistle. The sight of red made Jean’s stomach drop. Then the Referee turned to Jeremy and pulled out a second red card, and gestured to the open court door where the Wolves player had silently walked through.
Jeremy muttered a quiet, “fuck” and then walked off without turning to look at Jean. It didn’t matter that the entire stadium was already quiet, it wasn’t like Jean could hear anything anyways.
(Trojans first red card, but what if it was Jeremy who got it and not Jean?) (That and the aftermath that follows)

The rumors started long before Jean agreed to join the Trojans. It was idle chatter around the Edgar Allan campus. A few online forum discussions. The odd remark from a reporter. Conspiracy theories thrown around the locker room before a team was set to face off against the Ravens and the object of their curiosity.
Every single Raven daemon had been spotted at some point or another. All except one.
The rumors became a living thing when Riko died.
Reports came from the other athletes in Fox Tower, unanimous and clear: an unconscious Jean Moreau was seen carried out by security, bloody, with lacerations covering his arms and torso. Behind him medics rolled a covered cart large enough for a couch or fridge. Presumably carrying his daemon.
The real leak came two days after. A security guard told someone who told someone who told the media that allegedly, Jean was found in the wrecked dorm of Kevin Day. Specifically found locked in the bathroom. One quote circulated like fire across news cites and gossip columns: “We had to tranquilize his daemon. She was trying to kill him.”
Or, the daemon AU no one asked for except for me. -

There was a scuffle and shuffling, Jean’s voice further away saying something to someone, telling them to do something, breaths more ragged now. “Jeremy, what’s going on?”
“I’m sorry,” Jeremy said again. “I’m sorry, I tried, Jean. I really did. But I’m so tired of trying. I just need it to stop.”
“Oh, oh mon–” Jean swore in French. “You did not. Jeremy, you did not.”
“I’m sorry,” Jeremy whispered. He leaned over so he was lying on the ground now, curling up on his side so the phone was wedged between his ear and the ground. His head felt light, his body numb.
“No,” Jean sobbed. There was a horn somewhere. “No, you did not, Jeremy. Why?”
“I’m so tired,” Jeremy mumbled, his eyes slipping shut. It was all going fuzzy around the edges now. His chest did not feel so tight anymore. “I just wanted to hear your voice one more time.”
“Non, non, keep talking to me, okay? Keep talking, stay awake.”
“Too tired,” Jeremy slurred, his eyes remaining closed.
“You are okay, you are going to be okay.” Distant shouting, another horn.

Summary
Neil jerked awake and reached under his pillow for a gun that wasn’t there. Instead, he met Andrew’s hand, and that slipped away from his fingers in an instant.
The door was open. A soft light flooded in from the hallway, and someone padded over to the bed. Neil was alert at once, but when he blinked to adjust to the new lighting, and found that it wasn’t a stranger come to attack him in the night, he relaxed, even if only a little. It was Renee, and she was making for Andrew, who was already awake and sitting up. Neil followed suit and listened as Renee said, quietly, “Can I have the car key? Jean’s in trouble, I have to go get him.”
Neil’s heart thumped loud in his ears as he watched Andrew flick his fingers to the key where it sat on the bedside table and lay back down. He watched Renee thank Andrew and grab the key. Before she turned to leave the room, Neil found his voice. “Renee,” he said. She looked over at him, curious he’d spoken up. “Get Eloise, too. Riko will kill her if she’s the only one left.” Renee hesitated a moment, and then nodded.
