    Some part of Ned—the part that couldn’t stop looking, seeking out Peter in the dark alleys of New York, in the shadowy corners of his room at night, in the mix of vibrant voices that crackled in the crowded hallways of Midtown—refused to believe that Peter was gone. Ned could believe that Peter would make the sacrifice play, snapping a gauntlet of overpowered jewels and pulling a complete reversal on Thanos and his army. Ned could believe that such a feat would have devastating consequences on the human body, that Peter, no matter how enhanced his healing factor was, would not have come out of the battle, out of that decision, unscathed. But Ned could not believe that this would have killed him.

    But it had.

    Or, in one universe, Peter Parker's identity was revealed, leading him to the path where Doctor Strange cast a spell that made everyone forget who he was. In another, Peter Parker never made it that far, sacrificing himself instead of Tony to defeat Thanos and leaving behind his devastated loved ones.

    Or, Peter Parker thought he was done with the multiverse, but the multiverse wasn't done with him.

    Once his eyes landed on Mrs. Clegg, however, Peter had his answer. Her expression presented as nothing but angry as she looked at him in the eyes, shaking her head. She stood up and placed her left hand on her hip and her right hand on her black standing desk. The bell rang and the class fell quiet.

    “Mr. Stark,” Peter whispered, suddenly feeling very, very sick.

    “Mhm?” Mr. Stark hummed, patting his knee.

    “I- I don’t think I can do this. I’ve tried really hard to m-make myself want it, b-but I just don’t. I know you- but I can’t. I just can’t.”

    Mr. Stark removed his hand and looked at Peter questioningly. “What are you talking about?”

    Peter drew in a shaky breath, feeling the burn as tears fell down his cheeks. “I know you want me to be your- your- I don’t know, but I just can’t be that for someone again, it’s so- so much, and you’re married, you have a daughter, and it’s- I’m sorry. It’s just, it’s too- and I don’t even like you like that, I- I’m sorry.”

    Now he’d done it, now Mr. Stark would be looking at him with a heartbroken expression, hurt and betrayed and…

    Peter looked up at the man only to see nothing but shock and confusion on his features.

    “Peter… Do you think that I have… romantic feelings for you?”

He was just eleven years old when he refused to stop a robber and got his uncle killed. He was just eleven years old when he went out as Spider-man for the first time, determined to live up to his uncle’s legacy and use his powers for good.

    Along the way, Peter gets close to fellow vigilantes, Daredevil, The Punisher, and Moonknight to name a few.

    Peter became a vigilante to help the little guy, to be the friendly neighborhood Spider-man that Queens sorely needed. His job was to be there for the everyday crimes that The Avengers ignored.

    He was going to do everything in his power to help as many people as possible, but what happens when doing the right thing, means turning his back to his childhood heroes?

     

    Or: A rewrite of Spider-man in the MCU where he’s a pre-teen who is far more aligned with the vigilantes rather than with The Avengers.
