Charlie knew a fight was brewing the second he came home from Nick’s.
He’d spent the day there, getting up early and heading over, waiting til the very last minute before he walked home. He would have spent all night there too, but his mum had been pretty adamant he’d eat dinner at home now. Ever since he’d come back home from inpatient, she was his constant food shadow, always looking over his shoulder at meal time. Truth was, he’d probably eat better if he’d had dinner at Nick’s, but right now he wasn’t allowed to do that.
Which sucked, a lot. His mum never listened, she might be trying, but she still wasn’t actually listening to anything Charlie had to say. How was he ever truly going to get better if she wasn’t letting him challenge himself by eating not at home? Was she always going to watch him? He was lucky she didn’t follow him to school to watch him eat lunch, she trusted Nick then, didn’t she?
(Or after a fight with his mum Charlie leaves the house angry and Nick and Tori are worried)

In a dystopian-adjacent London and surrounding counties, everyone was on a partial lockdown order due to a string of kidnappings turned murders with motive and suspects unknown. The twenty victims were women of varying ages, races, and sexuality. The youngest so far had been fifteen, causing schools to increase security as they inched further towards total lockdown. All girls schools like Higgs had guards escorting students from the buses.
Charlie would rather Nick not have met him via dragging his collapsed and bleeding self to the hospital. He told himself he blushed in embarrassment when he woke to golden brows furrowed in worry. Maybe this meeting was fate. A chance for reprieve after nine months of absolute hell. Maybe...Nick can help him save whoever's left because this was now personal and inadvertently, Nick was already involved.
