"Hey" Shane said sitting down on the plush velvet couch. "I know this must be a tough time for you, but just know... I understand what you're going through." He said smiling kindly. Shane lifted his hand and hesitated before resting it on the sobbing boys shoulder trying to provide some comfort.
Ilya looked up from where he'd had his face buried in his hands. His eyes were raw from crying and his face was pulled into a furious glare. "What?" He asked incredulously.
"I remember my first time away from home too. I know you feel homesick now, but when you see how much fun you're going to have you'll be glad you came!" Shane explained helpfully. Although he thought the tribute was being a bit dramatic, Shane knew it was scary not getting to sleep in your own bed for the first time, so he was trying his best to be patient. God knows he'd had a terrible nights sleep his first night on the train.
Ilya hadn't moved since Shane finished talking. "You think I'm upset because I'm homesick? And not because I'm going to die?"
That one did stump Shane a bit.
