Charles’ mouth dropped at the accusation. “I wasn’t gonna, was I?” He glanced at Edwin. “I just came to walk her over.”
“Mmm, how chivalrous.” Crystal drawled. A flash of purple appeared as Niko entered the doorframe.
“Edwin!” The squeal Niko let out almost hurt Charles’s ears as she threw her arms around the other girl. “You can’t stay for girls’ night, Charles.”
Charles rolled his eyes. “I don’t get why it would be so bad if I did.”

Charles gets dragged to Hell on a foggy Tuesday afternoon in September. Edwin, Crystal, and the Night Nurse retrieve him a few weeks later. Somehow, this is only the prologue of the story.
In the time Charles was gone, something changed. Edwin is different. He’s disappearing off on his own, taking clients he won’t tell Charles and Crystal about, and - every now again - Charles could swear there’s a glint of fire in his eyes, like embers burning in the dark.
Something in Edwin broke when Charles was away. Charles just needs to figure out what it is so he can fix it before it consumes them.
