Any machines left were destroyed, everyone too afraid of what might happen should they be trusted again. Robots are to be eliminated on sight. The rich live far away, unaffected by the damage, whilst everyone else scrapes by with what little is left.
Former member of the Tinkerer's Guild and engineer Tango Tek is part of the latter group. He's barely getting by, scrounging the remains of the carnage to sell. Life is tricky and mundane, but he finds comfort in the repetitiveness of it. At least there are no bloodthirsty cyborgs or androids stalking around his streets.
Then a robot shows up at his door, begging for help.
And everything gets flipped on its head.
