Adding this to my lore cabinet.
I always imagined naruto soothing himself even in his teens and likely into adulthood before he really lets himself be vulnerable around others. But him telling himself in the mirror so he could sound confident about becoming Hokage and being respected is so so good. Always thought he would do this so he could practice masking his negative emotions to cope, but this is just as likely.
I really enjoyed this!!

A brief frown flits over Naruto’s face. “Uuh, Gaara, don’t you remember?” he whispers just above whispering volume. “You know, Gaara.” The frown turns into a pout.
Gaara does not, in fact, know. Nor does he remember what his boyfriend might possibly be referencing that would involve such a mortifying display of misalignment between their countries at the Kage Summit.
“You’re going to need to be more specific, Naruto.”
