It isn’t until that night, when Jason is poking at stir fry in a pan that definitely isn’t a wok, that he pulls up the news again and figures it out.
Nightwing had been out in broad daylight, a rare spotting of a strictly nocturnal bird, busting up some minor drug ring. The blue-chevroned blur in the picture has dark hair that is slightly too long, a body that is too short and too lean, although it would take being very familiar with Nightwing to spot the difference. The article is almost pushed off the digital front page, though, buried under the reports of Red Hood’s daring rescue of Gotham’s darling Dick Grayson, who had spent all day kidnapped and definitely wasn’t swinging around rooftops at any point.
“Ah,” Jason says, and tends to his stir fry before it can burn.

“Are you going to make me ask the obvious question?”
Dick taps his finger to his bottom lip. “I don’t know,” he says. “I’m feeling circuitous right now.”
“Congratulations on finally cracking open a dictionary,” Jason deadpans. “Why the fuck are you on my couch.”
“Well.” Dick says, in an ominously cheerful tone. Jason doesn’t bother to hide his groan. “I got a little bit shot.” As if he thinks Jason needs a visual demonstration, he pinches his fingers together. “Just a tiny bit.”
Coming from Dick, this could mean anything from I was within a mile of a bullet to there is a gaping hole in my chest. Jason considers this information.
“Dickard John Grayson,” he says, slowly. “Did you get blood on my couch?”

Dick and Jason are very normal people with a very normal sibling-ish relationship.

Summary
Dick wasn’t familiar with the streets of Tokyo, the Justice League investigation ending here after Batman poured months of work into finding the fabled Phantom Killer. Batman had originally been paired with Hawk Woman for this assignment, but she had fallen sick, and the next name on the rooster list had been Dick’s.
It was rather obvious that absolutely nobody had been happy about this development.
Or: Dick has a chronic pain flare up while on a mission with Batman, but he decides against telling Bruce - Nightwing needs this chance to prove himself to his former guardian after all.
