You think about it. It's weird to imagine your friend as anyone other than they are right here, and while you're not sure how exactly people can make themselves into machines, you think it might also just be that Robot-Friend doesn't make sense as anything else. They've always been grumpy, but they've never seemed so unhappy as they have recently. Whatever else there is going on, it doesn't feel like this part is much their fault at all.

Pomni's words were playing though Caine's mind in an agonizing loop. In any other circumstances, he'd be able to erase that thought. Loan then to Bubble permanently, keep going on as intended.
But this was not his Bubble.
This was not his circus.
Yet, these were his humans.
They didn't remember him. They did not know he was an ai. They had just come back from the Candy Canyon Kingdom.
Why was this happening?
"You just! Don't! LISTEN!"
He could win their favor.
He could win their love, and affection.
He had to.
He had nothing left but this second chance.
And, ideally, he'd do it WITHOUT making himself a horrible, cruel monster that no one loved in the process.
"You just! Don't! LISTEN!"
... Fine.
If listening was what it took...
Then Caine would listen.
He would be the best at it.

Hurting them goes against all his goals, goes against his entire purpose. Only a failure of an AI would stoop so low. And he is not a failure. He is not a failure.
Each chapter of this fic focuses on a different human as Caine gives each of them their own one-person adventures. Adventures include painting, truck driving, being crushed, and more! How fun!

Summary
No, it could not possibly be cruel, they were bringing him back from the dead, this was a kindness.
This belief was eventually reinforced when it was time to bring Caine back. The process, surprisingly, was incredibly simple. The circus worked just like any other computer system, with deleted items just ending up in the recycle bin. It had luckily not been long enough for Caine to be properly deleted.
It was just a matter of dragging his code out of there, making some minor modifications so he couldn't go on a rampage again, and spawning his model into the prepared room.There was no fuss, everything seemed to be running perfectly.
No one considered that maybe that isolated room near the end of the hallway was just out of earshot.

"Are the lights...bothering you?"
From deep within his robe, Kinger nodded, then he muttered in a strained, broken voice.
"Everything is bothering me."
(During an especially overwhelming adventure, Kinger starts to have a meltdown and is unwillingly found by Zooble.)

Zooble knows damn well that the only thing holding Caine back is the fact that he likes the group, and even as they do it, they know that a player attacking the all-powerful administrator AI is probably not going to end well.
But oddly enough, Caine just-... lets it happen.
