Summary
Sent to a universe without heroes after the battle at the Statue of Liberty, Peter Parker tries to move on and build a life where Spider-Man never existed. He goes to college, retires the suit, and becomes a biologist studying gene editing, evolution, and radiation. But when the sun begins to die and a miscalculation costs the lives of two astronauts right before launch, Peter agrees to take their place aboard the Hail Mary, convinced that saving this Earth might finally make up for abandoning his own.
Ryland Grace wakes with no memory of who he is, where he is, or why he is hurtling through space. Then he finds Peter Parker.

Summary
The river had carried most of the blood away.
What it left behind was Peter Parker, half-submerged in the shallows beneath an abandoned road, one cheek pressed into the mud. His suit was soaked through, torn open at the wrists and ribs, river water pulling at his legs every time the current shifted. His jaw hung wrong. His nose was broken. Both wrists lay useless beneath him. One ankle was turned at an angle that made no sense. Four arrows rose from his back, dark against the torn remains of his suit.
They looked familiar.

Peter takes his hand, helping him stand. "I'm fine, Matt. We're alone. But we- we aren't where we're supposed to be."
Matt frowns, head tilting. "Did the portal teleport us to a different part of the city?" Peter presses his lips into a thin line, rubbing the back of his head in thought.
Strange said it was meant to send the other versions of him back to their rightful universes — but what did that mean for someone who was already in their universe?

How would a single conversation between the infamous Captain America, and the young impressionable Spider-man, lead to such different circumstances?
OR:
During the events of the battle in Germany, Steve and Peter have an ever so slightly longer conversation, long enough that Peter ends up suspicious of what he's actually fighting for. Peter makes a decision, one that would change his fate, along with the rest of the avengers' as well. Who would've guessed that one extra sentence could change so much.
Safe to say everything goes wrong!
