Shikamaru could feel the building creak dangerously beneath his feet, sending ice up his spine as the tremors returned.
A hissed shit escaped his lips as he jumped the railing. Hugging the boy close as he braced for the impact. Gritting his teeth at the jolt, the landing sent through his legs as he turned toward the exit.
Except dust fell around him. And the sound of concrete and glass breaking sent chills down his arms as he pushed through the stairway door and took in the sight of the exit, just across the lobby.
The building shook, and he had to brace himself once again as it threw off his balance.
More dust fell around him, and he could hear the crashing begin of slabs of building falling in on itself.
All too soon caving on the entrance itself.
He was not going to make it.
Fuck.
He hugged the wall and kneeled, putting his body over the boy who was now sobbing into his shirt as he felt his abilities snap awake.

"Your arm is so nice," Angela mumbled with her eyes closed. Her cheek pressed snugly against Damien's side and realization had not caught up to her.
