After the failed take over of Heaven Lucifer decides to become more active in Hell and attends Overlord meetings to spare Charlie the burden. Naturally, Alastor volunteers to help now that he is conveniently free from hotel obligations. Everything seems to be going well until one disastrous meeting.
Alastor just wants a glass of whiskey and a cigarette but Lucifer insists on pushing every button he can to aggravate the demon... he just wants the king to shut up for five minutes!

“..It’s a lot.” He curls up his form, “Sometimes. If I hide or cover some features of my physical form, like my nose and ears — It helps, but.. sometimes I can’t manage to block out the rest of it with my magic, and it gets.. bad.”
“..Everything has a song, too. That’s.. not asbad? Sometimes.” He tries to lighten it up, smiling. “One time Ozzie sent a Succubus to Earth to get some fruits. Lemons have such.. a lovely song, you wouldn’t have ever guessed.”
He laughs softly, and tucks his chin against his knee, fiddling with the letter, “And.. the network, running throughout the Rings.. always hums this beautiful, discordant melody.. Jazzy in a way without your typical instrumentals—Just, movement.. and existing.”
”All the murmuring souls.. the life, that’s managed to grow in this desolate pit of empty ambience..”
”I could get lost in it.” He hums, eyes having fallen shut. “..Heaven used to be beautiful, filled with Music and life—But.. controlled, so tensely—There was only chorales.. Everyone coming together into one, loud, unifying yet echoing voice.. and that was it. Those are beautiful, too.. and wonderful in their own right—But..”

“I have a paper to … edit.” Clark fidgeted with the jacket Jimmy had thrown over his shoulders.
“The one you’ve edited 14 times already?” Jimmy folded his arms over his chest. “We both know there’s a point where the words are not words anymore and I’m pretty sure you’ve crossed it.”
A little shy. Ma Kent had claimed. As if shy meant ‘quiet’ and not ‘runs away from rooms with more than two people at almost-too-fast-for-a-human speed’.
“Well.”
“You’re going.”
“But—“ Clark tried to protest again, and Jimmy broke out the big guns.
“You wouldn’t leave your best friend to go to a party all by himself would you? I need you, Clark.” Jimmy let his own social anxiety bubble up in his eyes. “I can’t go alone.”
It was true.
Sort of.
Parties weren’t as much fun without Clark, and as much as he covered for the man in secret he deserved to have fun.

Summary
Lucifer hadn’t been to Earth in a long time and the few times he had been back were for business, not any kind of sightseeing. The changes he learned about in the world above were mostly brought with new sinners down to Hell, technology they carried along with new aesthetics and Lucifer was always a little behind on the trends.
That made it all the more interesting to see Alastor’s version of his old stomping grounds from Earth.

“W-welcome back, darli̴ng.” Alastor didn’t look at him; the deer was staring at the floor, hands twisting in the red fabric of his dress. His left wrist was bandaged up, but some blood had seeped through the binding.
Vox hurried inside, taking Alastor’s hand in his own. “Sweetheart, what happened to you!?”
“I- I was making dinner and- and the knife slipped.”
It didn’t look like a just a slip of the knife; the damage was to the wrist, not the fingers. This was not how people usually cut themselves cooking. Vox bit his lip. Had Alastor tried to hurt himself again? Vox had thought his wife was past that now. “... you need to be more careful, precious.”
What starts as a normal evening ends in disaster.
