“She said she wasn’t worried about us breaking up.”
Oh. Well. That was pretty definitively a thing that people said about partners who were together romantically.
“Say something,” Buck instructed.
“What?”
“Anything,” Buck said, his voice wavering on the word. Which was—it was weird, right? Why was Buck so shaken by a throwaway comment?
Or maybe the better question was why wasn’t Eddie? If either of them was going to get freaked out by the assumption that he was dating a man, it would make more sense for it to be Eddie, who was straight, and not Buck, who had, in fact, already dated men.
“Aren’t you going to be late for your shift?”

Buck and Eddie get shaken up by a comment from Theo’s social worker, and then by a magnitude 7 earthquake; it turns out, some disasters are better than others.

Summary
Buck is no stranger to being alone. He spent years fending for himself after leaving the house he grew up in, and even the years before that, he didn’t really have anyone.
He thought he had found a family with the 118. He had a captain he came to see as a father, found a mother in Athena and a wider family from his coworkers and theirs. Buck even thought he might have a chance at something more with the man who was his best friend and his son. He should have known better.-+-
A post-lawsuit fic (kind of) where Buck leaves and never really had any intention of coming back. The universe has different plans for him though.

The 118th Fire Station has a habit of leaving them.
What starts as a few “accidental” requests for XXL clothing quickly escalates into an interdepartmental problem when other stations begin to notice something strange:
Buck keeps showing up using different last names.

Donato?Why does he have SO MANY hoodies?
And why doesn’t anyone at the 118th seem concerned?
Eight times the 118th Fire Station got hoodies for Buck… and one time the entire Fire Department completely lost it.

“I didn’t!” Buck pleads, eyes filling with tears. “I just had a drink. There was a guy, Brad-Brad introduced us. I-I can’t remember his name. Something with a J maybe? Justin, Jacob, Jerry? It was just one drink. Whiskey? I think? I don’t know. I don’t know, Bobby. But it doesn’t matter because none of that was real.”
“None of what?” Bobby frowns, not understanding.
“None of it!” Buck shouts and rips away from Bobby and begins to pace again.
