It must’ve been her mother, she must have secretly spoke to Zuko through secret letters and codes because he was the good son and could be saved still, because Azula needed to go down and bring the badness with her. Agony, rippling under flesh as it rends from bone. Bubbles floating through stale air, a memory. Pockets of flesh bear the same pattern, puss-filled blisters shimmering in sweat. Pain hits a threshold, from searing to unfathomable, where it almost stops as bone melts and marrow leaks out in a sticky mess that’s lost to the blood sea.
