Summary
When Shen Qingqiu goes through the Black Grass Forest and gets a face full of some unknown pollen, he doesn't realize what hit him at first. He would've probably wandered around for hours, sneezing, wondering what this thing is going to do to him. Instead, despite his lack of foresight, he almost immediately realizes what happened. Because one moment he is wiping away pollen from his face. And the next moment there is a Man Eating Six Legged Panther pouncing on him. And Shen Qingqiu realizes that he feels absolutely no fear whatsoever.
Shen Qingqiu gets doused by a pollen that makes him fearless. Tired of constantly fearing for his life he tell no one. Against his better judgment he decides to go to the mission in this state.
It's just a short mission to JinLan City! What could go wrong?
It's not like the pollen has some unexpected side effects, right?

Look, Sean was just trying to get through these fucked-up death games and get back home. While he might not like Black, Black was useful. They had the same goals, so he could trust that Black wouldn’t murder him, even in this game where any other player could be trying to kill them.
But Black was being so fucking weird today. Something about him was different — soft instead of his cruel, hard edges, less argumentative. Sean didn’t hate him quite so much in here.
White, honestly, had no idea who the guy he’d partnered with for this game was. But these death games were always about trust, and this guy trusted Black, at least.

It’s as Shen Qingqiu crushes the last little fluttering Iridescent Gem Beetle that the mother decides to introduce herself by burrowing up out of the earth like a cicada the size of an elephant. He just barely has time to resign himself to an even more exhausting fight than the last one - with no rest point in between to chug stamina potions or anything! Honestly, what poor game design! - when the stranger appears.
He charges into the scene out of nowhere like an absolute bullshit deus ex machina, all dark, flowing hair and robes, whirling around to stab at the Mother Beetle with a gleaming white sword, making it screech and rear back in pain. Seriously, Shen Qingqiu feels like he’s suddenly trapped in a video game cutscene introducing the new companion! Where’s the background music and camera close up? Who is this guy?
