    Summary

Love and pain are two sides of the same coin, but opposite nonetheless.

When Bakugou Katsuki was nine, his mother was diagnosed with mental illnesses.

Before she got sick she was his mom. She would cook breakfast and dinner and she would do all the chores with a small smile on her face and a tired look in her eyes. And she would play heroes with Katsuki and ruffle his hair and call him her little rascal. She treated him with warmth and care. And she loved him.

But sometimes love isn’t enough, especially when it hurts.

This story is a work centered on mental illness, abuse, and the impact it has on the characters. Any comments are definitely appreciated! <3

Parent Quirk Day is coming up at school and everyone's excited—all but Hitoshi. Hitoshi doesn't know how to feel about it. This leads him into thinking of the past he just can't recall, the present with the things he finds difficult to confront, and his future and how the past and present will determine it.

[or; Hitoshi wants to ask Shouta to come to Parent Quirk Day, but he isn't so sure if Shouta sees himself as his parent.]

“Do you want to be a hero?”
Izuku blinks. Where did that question come from? It was so out of the blue that Izuku just feels confused now. “I can't,” he finally manages to say.
    “Why not?”
Is Eraserhead stupid? Well, Izuku won’t actually ask him, but he’s tempted. It’s perfectly obvious why he can’t be a hero. “I’m deaf,” he points out.
    “So is Present Mic.”
    “I’m quirkless.”
    “And?”
“What do you mean and? And nothing. Quirkless heroes don’t exist. Especially not deaf quirkless heroes,” Izuku says. He’s not sure why Aizawa isn’t understanding this.
Aizawa just sighs, shaking his head. Izuku thinks there must be some big thing he’s just not seeing for the underground hero to be reacting like this. “So be the first, problem child,” Aizawa finally says.

(AKA: Bakugou's bullying goes a bit too far when Izuku is ten, so they move. He meets Hatsume, gets trained by Aizawa and Present Mic, and sets off to become the first ever quirkless hero)

    Dear Shinsou Hitoshi—

We thank you for having the courage to take the provisional licensing exam. As your test scores show, you have exceptional talent and all instructors present were very impressed with your performance. However, due to the current political climate regarding quirks like yours, the board has made an executive decision to reject your provisional licensing request...

He couldn’t be a hero now. Students were supposed to have their provisional licenses by the end of the second year. There was still time for anyone who didn’t get it during Hitoshi’s exam to do so—but Hitoshi hadn’t failed. He’d been rejected. There was no second chance.

He was a hopeless case with no future.

    Summary

Some days, Izuku opened his eyes in the morning and just knew something bad was going to happen.

When a video is posted of Izuku from his middle school days being tormented by a group of bullies, how will his new classmates and teachers respond? Will they shun him for being quirkless like everyone had when he was younger, or will they accept him for who he is?

This is a piece I wrote about bullying for the first day of Whumptober, and here I am on the 11th posting it, but I wanted to get it right, and I am really happy with how it turned out, so here it is!
