He watches her, closely, studying every little detail. Committing her to memory, scanning for any sympathy, any pity, any indication that there’s something else going on. He doesn’t find any, but he does notice something strange: two scars, ones that hadn’t been there when he left. They were on her neck, just missing any major arteries. They were thin, but deep, with tapered edges, like they had been done in a fit of rage, rather quickly.
“These are new,” he gestures, “what’s that about? Can’t imagine you can exactly get into prison fights in solitary.”
She winces, avoiding eye contact.
“These are… another thing I should probably apologize for.”
“Oh? And why is that, exactly?”
“They were… a gift. From your brothers.”Or: Grace is back on Earth, and he decides to visit one Eva Stratt in prison. She tells him something that changes everything

And Rocky had only ever interacted directly with one human, after all.
But... Grace wasn't happy.
They'd found another human!“Why Grace scared? Question,” Rocky chirped, confused. “New human friend for Grace- thought Grace would be happy.”
Swallowing, feeling a lump in his throat, Grace pushed himself back up to stand. “Sorry,” he said again, smiling bitterly. “I guess I should be happy, but… I’m just thinking of all the reasons Earth would send more humans out into space- and most of them aren’t good ones.”

OR: Grace isn't happy when the Eridians announce they've found a new human. Not at all. He liked his life alone. He didn't want to deal with any more drama from Earth!
This new human meant shattering the peaceful little life he had built for himself.
Meeting Simon completely upends Grace's day-to-day routine.

Ryland Grace is an asexual alpha. Simon, the new and only other human on Erid, happens to be an omega. Grace is terrified that Simon might eventually need him as an alpha... How mortifying! Grace could never satisfy his needs as an omega! So Grace is desperately trying to convey that he is NOT a good potential mate or an alpha in general (he always thought he was a good-for-nothing alpha). He just has to be his usual painfully awkward self and everything will be okay!
But... Grace being caring, respectful, kind and selfless by nature does nothing to help his case as Simon naturally warms up to him with time. Somehow, they will have to figure it out.
Or, Simon getting the care and affection he desperately needs from an impossibly gentle alpha (while Grace struggles with his complicated feelings and identity).
