“… incinerated my prototypes,” he is saying as Viktor watches him; half-conversational, half-explanatory. “A few times, actually, by now. It’s like cat and mouse: I make them, they incinerate them … I don’t think they ever realised I had any other crystals or they’d definitely incinerate those, too.”
“Bastards,” Viktor says, seriously.
Jayce grins up at him again. “Yeah,” he says, “bastards. The whole lot.”
They look at each other oddly, both blinking. Then Jayce grins again, as though he is in on some sort of great joke that only the two of them are privy to. For the first time in a very long time, Viktor feels very aware of his mask standing between the world an his face.
Perhaps the cooling system is clogged again. He feels oddly warm.
Or: Zaunite shut-in Viktor hides in his lab and behind his mask, until a tipsy Academy drop-out stumbles into his life on a reckless gander into the Undercity. Something blooms.

The more imposing he's become, the more he's desired, but not in any way that's meaningful. He's tried to seek connection a few times here and there, but what people want from him isn't something he can manage to give.
His stature has precluded him from gentleness, from reverence and care. It's devastating, but unsurprising. He is seen, not known. Observed but never understood. What more could he expect?

Summary
The Mage keeps walking, and Jayce panics; he shoves the stone in his pocket and runs ahead, seizing the Mage by the back of his robes. “Please, mister,” he says. “Thank you for saving me, but my mom—she went out to look for help and didn’t come back—do you know where she is?”
The Mage turns around to look at him, then behind him, as if to confirm that Jayce is, indeed, alone. Jayce tries to peer up into his hood, but there’s something about the way the light bends around his face—it’s like he can’t look directly at him, no matter how hard he tries.
“She might be lost,” Jayce says. “Please, could you—whatever you just did, could you find her, too?”
Baby!Jayce gets separated from his mother in the storm. Mage!Viktor takes care of him.

Summary
Jayce was staring at the wall when Viktor found him, stubble already overgrown, hair shorn. He looked broken, fragile. A lost little boy thrown to wolves. Viktor had the ridiculous urge to pull him close, stroke his hair, and let him fall asleep in his lap, safe from harm. He didn’t know the man, only his journal.
“I hope I am not interrupting,” Viktor said, halfway between the dark humor of his home and Piltover politeness.
Jayce’s hazel eyes swung to him, bloodshot and puffy. He shook his head once, slowly, as if he were ashamed. The urge to cradle him grew stronger, a living thing in his chest.
Jayce is thrown into Stillwater after his experiment kills a teenage girl. Viktor finds his journal and becomes obsessed, retreating to Zaun to continue his work with the help of his old mentor. It only takes seven years of obsessive work and a jailbreak to reunite them.

Summary
When things are especially bad and he sits there just staring into the dark for hours on end, he imagines himself splitting Viktor’s head open, just to see what’s in there. He knows - of course he does, on a clinical level. Yet, he finds himself imagining his hands deep in Viktor’s skull, proding, rummaging the matter there, the slippery wetness of it, cupping his hands to bring the fluids there to his mouth and drink, and he feels his own brain go drunk with it. Feels his teeth itch with it.
And some of those times, it’s completely unrelated, he swears, that he ends up in the shower holding himself just a bit too tight and being just a bit too rough with himself as he leans against the warming tiles, breathing heavily through his nose.

Or - Jayce is stressed and overworked and doesn't know what to do with his need for Viktor.

Viktor knew how he looked. With his sharp angles and hollowed cheeks and colt-like limbs, he was a serpentine god with all his alabaster beauty.
The nobles whispered about it. The investors watched Viktor move, fascination warring with discomfort. The Council scoffed at the idea of a Zaunite on their board—until they saw him.
Exotic. Enthralling. An exquisite thing to be coveted for themselves.
Viktor had once despised it.
Despised the way they stared, the way their fascination was always tinged with something possessive, as if he were a rare specimen on display. Loathed the murmurs in the Academy halls, the furtive glances that dogged him everywhere he went.
Now?
Now, he used it.
If they should lust after him, they did so at their own peril.
Desire was a fundamental human weakness. A distraction. A vulnerability. And if Jayce Talis was to prove useful, then Viktor would use every weakness he had.

Summary
Since his lab is under construction over the summer, Jayce finds himself agreeing to act as a lifeguard for the new joint beach between Piltover and Zaun.
He isn't expecting to find one beach-goer in particular (with his large floppy hats, loose flowy clothing, and excessive sunscreen) as captivating as he does, or for the opportunity to meet, talk, and work with him to fall into his lap. But it does.
Viktor isn't expecting the muscle-bound lifeguard so diligently guarding the beach to be handsome, brilliant and kind. But Jayce Talis does nothing but surprise him, in the best ways that might have him enjoying his trips to the beach more and more.

When Viktor finally asks why Jayce stayed behind inside the Anomaly with him, Jayce stares at him as though he’s supremely disappointed by the question— as if Viktor has betrayed his own brilliance by asking something so irredeemably stupid. “How could I not? We’re partners.”
Partners, Jayce calls them. Not for the first time, Viktor wonders: Partners in what?
