"My fiancée, on the other hand, is making a perfectly shitty and permanent decision already, completely on her own. She found a loophole."
Mira glanced back to Zoey, who sent her a wink and then turned her attention back to Rumi. "Makes sense."
"Okay, take off your shirt."
Zoey's fond smile quickly morphed into a wolfish smirk. "Whoa, Rumi, we're not alone."

Here's a little glimpse into the chaotic, traumatized mind of poor Zoey. Honestly this drabble was an excerpt from my upcoming chapter for my other story "We're Shattering the Silence," but I don't feel like it fits anymore and I still wanted to share. This is a deep dive into Zoey's past trauma and how she (tries to) handle it in the present. There's some heavy stuff here - implied child neglect, references to Zoey being bullied, implied/referenced alcohol abuse (Zoey's Dad), Zoey has a panic attack, implied eating disorders, etc. Sorry in advance! <3 Poor Mira and Rumi (and Bobby) try their best, but Zoey needs so many more hugs and therapy. If you guys like this semi-chaotic, flashback-ridden introspective character study, I'd be happy to try to continue! If not, no worries and hope you still kinda enjoy! Love you all! <3

Rumi's sword disappears and she kneels down next to Zoey, "Are you hurt?" Her hand rests on Zoey's knee as her eyes search for wounds.Zoey becomes acutely aware of Rumi's hand on her. Shes staring at Rumi with awe, eyes wide. She looks worried.
"Zoey? Are you ok?" Rumi's voice is soft.
Zoey nods, the sound of her name snapping her back into the moment. "Yeah… I think so. I just… you saved me." She says to Rumi.
Rumi helps Zoey to a standing position. "Of course I did… Because I-" The others come into view around her. She swallows her words down. "We're a team."

When they hit their final pose and the stage lights finally darkened around them, Mira finally felt it safe enough to drop the pretense. Wilting quickly, she slumped against Rumi in pained relief as if she had spent her last bit of energy holding herself together for their last song. Without speaking, Zoey made her way to Mira’s other side so that she and Rumi could each wind an arm around her waist and escort her offstage.
“I’m okay,” Mira mumbled, but didn’t pull away from either of them. Rather, she seemed to melt deeper into their support. “It’s just-“
“Your head?” Rumi asked quietly, not needing the small nod of confirmation from Mira to know she was right.
