    Summary

As Kaveh sorts the jugs into two groupings—one for the punch bowl and one for the drain—a bell chimes, clattering against the front door.

“We’re about to close,” Tighnari snaps at the entering customer.

Kaveh springs to his feet and positions himself behind the register.

    “How can I help—”

    You.

The customer is halfway to the counter when their eyes lock, and time stops. The man’s shoulders stiffen. Heterochromatic eyes—teal and orange, fire and water, familiar as the breath in Kaveh’s mouth, as the freckle above his left knee—widen with shock and a little disbelief. His mouth drops open, slack, and Kaveh thinks, I don’t think I’ve ever seen him speechless before.

    Oh, gods.

Kaveh thought he’d never see Alhaitham again.

After a year without contact, Alhaitham wanders into Kaveh's coffee shop.

Kaveh wants nothing to do with him — he already has enough problems. But Alhaitham's determined to give him just one more, and perhaps solve a few in the process.

    Kaveh can't keep doing this.
"Why," he asks, making sure his glare is particularly scathing, "did you order your soup, and I quote, 'without the broth?'"
"It's how I eat it while reading," Alhaitham replies, which — is frankly an insane thing to say. Like, generally.

Or: Alhaitham orders increasingly ridiculous deliveries... and Kaveh, his Doridasher, is collateral damage.

    Summary

Kaveh just wanted to finish his architectural projects, pay off his debts, and maybe enjoy some alcohol without someone ruining his day.

Instead, he’s getting interrogated by an amateur kidnapper who won’t take no for an answer, playing chess with the same amateur who definitely has ulterior motives, and realizing that, maybe, he’s stumbled headfirst into a conspiracy way above his pay grade.

Oh, and the not-so-amateur kidnapper? He’s everywhere.

(Or: Kaveh makes one wrong turn and ends up accidentally kidnapped. Somehow, it's less stressful than dealing with his clients.)

    Summary

Alhaitham’s agency throws him into a livestream dating show. As expected, he rejects everyone. Rudely.

“Name a key scientist involved in the laws of thermodynamics.”
    “Newton?”
“What is your stance on Dialectic of Enlightenment?”
    “Dia-what?”
“Name a philosopher. As an advantage, a dead one.”
    “...”
    “Next.”

It shouldn't have been as surprising when someone finally snaps.

“Do you even know the answers to these questions, or are you just waiting for someone to say Ibn al-Haytham to boost your own ego?”

Or: The internet is privy to Alhaitham falling in love on camera.

    Summary

"Okay, but objectively," Kaveh started, pacing back and forth across the living room rug, "do you guys think he's hot?"

"We've never seen his face, Kaveh."

"Stop looking at me like that. I just want to know if he's handsome. Is that a crime?"

Alhaitham, who had gone very quiet, snapped his book shut.

"I need to make a call."

Kaveh blinked at him. "A call? To who?"

    "Work."

Tighnari frowned. "You've never mentioned what you actually do for work."

Alhaitham was already halfway to the door. "Because none of you would understand it."

Kaveh is a cosplayer; in other words, a modern-day Prince Charming in a world where chivalry is dead, as quoted from Cyno.

All artists know that art, in any form, comes from a fundamental basis of inspiration. He's a very big fan of the anonymous comic book author known by the pseudonym “Sage". He doesn't make much of an effort to hide this fact.

The only issue is this: he also has no idea that "Sage" lives in the same apartment, one door down.
