Once upon a time, Rusty had thought that council meetings would feel easier if he attended enough of them.
He was old enough now to know that they didn't.
The chamber that meetings were held in was grand enough to make anyone feel small, with high vaulted ceilings, long windows letting in cold morning light, and a polished table stretching almost the full length of the room. The banners of the Kingdom of Solstara hung between the windows, each bearing the colours and crest he was meant to inherit one day.

Summary
Porter never understood why train yards had to be so loud constantly.
During work hours, sure. Diesels were noisy, steam trains huff and puff, and freights weren't exactly known for being quiet when loaded with cargo. Even humans, tiny as they are, could be loud when they congregated for whatever passenger services were running out of Troubadour that day.
But he wished the noise would at least quieten down when the yard settled down for off-duty leisure time.

At the time, breaking up with the steam engine had felt like the right thing to do. Back when Rusty's insecurity and Porter's self-destructive need to be a point of comfort had done nothing but cause friction between them. It was only fair to them both that they broke up.
But watching Rusty preen over that pretty little first class coach was really making him regret ever letting him go.
