Summary
It's as they're crossing state lines that it seems to really sink in - that is, just what the fuck he's doing. The reality of it. Not just that the feds would be after them in a matter of days, but the weight of the choice he made.
He chose to run away with a serial killer.
What the fuck is he doing? Why is he escorting a fucking serial killer to safety? He should turn the goddamn car around, go to the nearest police station and hand them both in. He should take his gun out and shoot Mark Hoffman in the head. He should swerve into the first car he sees and take them both out.
He lives in the fantasy for a moment. Revels in it. Acrid smoke and fire and glass everywhere and him and Hoffman slowly bleeding out together, assuming the impact didn't kill one or both of them immediately.
Wouldn't that be nice? A win-win situation. Jigsaw dies, Lindsey is avenged, Peter doesn't have to fucking live with himself anymore. It'd be easy. He's angry enough to do it.
